Apartment in Dusseldorf
by Padski07
Hi all,
Myself and 3 others are travelling to Dusseldorf on 30/12/07 until 2/01/08 for new years. We would like to book an apartment for our stay as we have done in other countries. Is there any site or anywhere i could find information?
Thanks for your help

website called fewo24, I have used this and found a great place last time I was in germany, not in Düsseldorf unfortunately.

Try http://bedandbreakfast.de/index.php?lang=en
I have used it twice in Germany with excellent results.

I had alook at fewo24 and only 1 place offered which looked a bit shonky - I think sometimes people lease out rooms in a private dwelling and I get the feeling this happens with the "apartment" offered as it looks nothing like a Ferienwohnung to me.
I got sucked in some years ago, the apartment I rented was very obviously a private residence, absolutely everything under lock and key. I had 1 plate, 1 spoon, 1 cup etc and inside the locked cupboards there were the family,s dishes, bedlinen and so on.
google ferienwohnung+duesseldorf and see if you get any joy, the genuine holiday apartments are lovely but the 2 I stick to are nowhere near D,dorf. There may actually be some on offer on ebay under Reise.

Travel Tips for Düsseldorf
A stroll through the Altstadt
by yooperprof
An old bicycle underneath a gas lamppost - what a cliche subject for a photograph! Every American who has ever travelled to Europe has taken this picture!
But a stroll through Altstadt will make even the most jaded traveller (certainly NOT a tourist) succumb to the charms of Old Europe.

We did it as kids in the afternoon, adult-visitors do the same.
The Ballet-school is in the big main-building of the Orangerie.
The other door leads you to the public librairy if you want to warm up and read some intern. magazine and newspapers.
This site is the place of the previous castle (16th, 17th century). The dark building was the horse's stall. It was changed to a gym later on where we had to join our sport-lessons at time.

best by car ( at least half a dozen Autobahnen pass or go thru the city) or by plane!
Dusseldorf International Airport (DUS) is under general construction at the moment, rebuilding Terminal A and B ( terminal b almost completely destroyed by a fire couple years ago)! The new Terminal B will be a glass construction, pretty much like Frankfurt or Brisbane! When finished the Airport will most likely be a must see as well!
Public transportation... or car... but i warned you!!! ;o)

Stadttor

This amazing glass constructed building - the "City Gate" built in 1998 - typifies the new designer Dusseldorf reclaimed from the wasted dockland area. Its even more amazing to drive through it - it was built over the road tunnel! It houses numerous offices, media centres and lawyers' practices. The huge, round steel columns have been intentionally left visible, and the design has won several awards.
Hold on though even more crazier buildings are around the corner.....
The Longest Bar in the World
by Redlats
I'm not sure if it is just an advertising gimmick (Sabsi assures me it is not), but we were told that Düsseldorf includes the longest bar in the World. A couple of streets is continuous bars, one after the other, with seating both inside and out.
These establishments are frequented by both locals and tourists - They are always busy.
