Düsseldorf Tip
by sharonn
I have quite a few fond memories of Germany as I have lived here for one year now. This is more about Frankfurt than DD but I have never saw in my life anywhere the amount of storms and thunder and lightening that they get in Frankfurt it was like watching a laser show from my balcony! My fondest memory is probably of Berlin when I took a cruise and saw the 'Veil of Tears' (which is the bridge where the East and West were allowed to meet before the wall was put up. It almost reduced me to tears as I could imagine how heartbreaking it must have been for those people.
The clock of the Rheinturm
by sabsi
At night there's a clock at the side of the Rhine tower. Have a look in the evening and try to figure out how it works. I understood it but I'm not telling you - it's more fun to find out yourself! Little hint: This picture was taken at 6.49 p.m., 14 seconds before 6:50 p.m.!
Oasis
by wilde13 about Herr Spoerl
The Herr Spoerl is beautiful but pur decorated charming bistro/restaurant.
The menue (all menues incl. breakfast are served till evening) is small but well balanced, excellent and curious creations.
The food is primarily italien, toscanny or spanish.
It is a friendly mixture from students, families or intellectuells with a nice little beergarden and some playfields for children.
In sommer you have to care about falling plums.
There are some more Spoerl destinations
Spoerl Deli (city centre)
Spoerl Hafenbar (harbour area)
Look for opening hours, from 10 am - 10 pm.

Schlossturm Tower
by sandysmith
Unfortunately this historic tower was in scaffolding during our visit in Oct 2004 so instead of taking a pic of that (there's plenty on VT anyway) I took a pic of the information plaque found just in front of it. This tells the story of how it was burnt in a fire in 1872.
