Travel from Duesseldorf Airport

by darrylpmatthews

Hi! I will be visiting Duesseldorf in December, and will be staying at The Airport Sheraton (2 nights). Can travel passes be purchased to get into the city? How much are they? Really looking forward to my visit and hope that somebody can help. With very best regards. Darryl

I'm not too sure about passes, but I used to do the trip once or twice a month a few years back. The commuter train connects the airport to the main station, which is right downtown.

For fares, etc. check the Deutsche Bahn website.

Please choose your destination:
Arabella Sheraton Hotel
Terminal Rail Station

S-Bahn S7 brings you from the Terminal Rail Station to Düsseldorf Hbf (main train station). All other trains stop at the Airport Rail Station which is at the edge of the airport grounds and connected with the terminal via Sky Train.
> Can travel passes be purchased to get into the city?
Of course.
> How much are they?
Single ticket is EUR 2,30. Day ticket is EUR 5,30. Mini group (2-5 persons) day ticket is EUR 11,70.

Covered is all local public transport inside Düsseldorf: regional trains (RB, RE), S-Bahn, U-Bahn/Stadtbahn (tram), buses and the Sky Train.

The S-Bahn stop is very close to the Sheraton so this will be easiest to use.

Travel Tips for Düsseldorf

An unexpected daytrip

by Helga67

I never thought I would see Duesseldorf this soon. A friend asked me to join her to an exhibition of a Flemish painter in K21, a museum in Duesseldorf.

We left early in the morning and drove about 3 hours to this city. We visited the museum in the morning and had a nice walk around the old town in the afternoon. Unfortunately, it was a very misty and dark day, and we didn't have enough time to fully enjoy this city, but this daytrip gave me a good idea of what Duesseldorf has to offer. I need to come back one sunny day.

DEG Metro Stars

by sabsi

The stadium of one of the most popular icehockey clubs of Germany, the DEG Metro Stars, is just around the corner from where I live. I will definitely go there soon to see a match - preferable when they play their big enemies - the sharks of Cologne - Kölner Haie!

from/to Hamburg

by wilde13

If you will go from Hamburg or to Hamburg, use this unique train "Metropolitan".
It is the most comfortable train in Germany.
THe train does stop only at Cologne --> Düsseldorf --> Essen and go directly to Hamburg. THe train is faster and better.
There are four different wagons

2. cl.: Travellers
1.cl: Office
Club
Silence

The tickets are normally 99 € (Traveller - one way) or 116€ (other).
But the do offer plenty of reduced tickets from 19 - 59 €.
In 1. cl you get free newspaper, a meal, beverages and have only to pay for alcoholic drinks.

In 1.cl you can either chose between themes.
In silence you will get pillows, in club you get DVD and in Office nothing except power for your lap.

If you are able to get reduced tickets (you should get them) there is no better way and cheaper to travel from/to Hamburg.

Best ice cream in town

by Bigs about Unbehaun´s Sahne und Eis

It doesn´t look very special from outside as the styling is very oldfashioned. So is the ice, it´s very creamy and probably the best in town. It´s known all over Düsseldorf and beyond and most visitors come here with a car.... that says everything I would say... There are only five sorts of ice to choose from: Strawberry, Chocolate, Vanilla, Nut and Lemon! My favourite is the nut icecream!!!!!

They also sell cream!!!

My childhood at the film museum

by Nemorino

Photos:
1. Old movie cameras
2. More modern than the one my father had
3. Projector just like the one we had at home
4. An early attempt to add sound to movies

It always seems strange to go to a museum and see things you used to use yourself.

Some of the old 8 mm movie cameras and projectors at the film museum were just like the ones we used to have at home when I was a child.

I still have a box of old 8 mm films that my father and I took. I suppose it would be possible to get them digitalized, but I suspect their historical value is rather limited.
