Christmas market
by Helga67
Germany is well-known for its Christmas markets. Every year, thousands of people come to Germany around Christmas time to visit them.
Of course, Duesseldorf has its own Christmas markets. From around mid November to about the day before Christmas you can visit the St. Nicholas market on the Market Place in front of the Town Hall or the Christmas market on the Schadowplatz near the famous Koeningsallee.
The Christmas markets are open daily from 11:30 am to 8 pm.
Far too trendy for Sourbugger...
by sourbugger about Jades's
Upmarket and fashionable women's fashions, jewelley, ornaments and furniture in the centre of Dusseldorf. Not exactly Sourbugger's cup of tea, but I was quite impressed by large sofa in the shop that was completely covered in glass crystals from Swarovski.
I didn't realise this monstrosity was for sale. When I asked the assistent she informed me it was a mere 35,000 Euro. Good job I didn't let my offspring vomit all over it then.
The sofa could only be bought by someone with a fair chunk of money and absolutely no taste...Victoria Beckham perhaps ?
The shop was full off stuff desired by those who crave brand names....if that's your thing, then this is your shop.
Sevens Food Hall
by antistar about Sevens Food Hall
On the basement floor of the Sevens shopping center is an excellent little food hall serving food from all over the world, including China, Lebanon and Italy. I sat down at the Lebanese eatery, one of two in the city, and had an tasty snack of homous and flat bread. The service was fast and friendly, the food excellent, and the coffee extraordinarily strong. Be warned: it's authentic thick black arabic coffee, and very bitter. I had to order a extra water to help it go down!
Have a Beer on the Marktplatz
by DanielF
One of the main factors that fueled the growth of Duesseldorf was the right to hold a market. The market square became thus one of the main trading posts on the banks of the Lower Rhine.
The Square in front of the Town Hall lost its role as market place in the XX century. Only occasionally is it still used for this purpose. For instance, the square still holds part of the Christmas market (see main picture). The ordinary weekly markets, however, are held nowadays in the Charles Square, on the boundaries of the Altstadt.
Today, on warm days street cafés replace the former market stalls and have become one of the favorite tourist meeting points in the city.
Skyscrapers
by Gili_S
Of course the old city is the main attraction here, but also the modern architecture is interesting. There are not many skyscrapers here but one of the interesting ones is this one, which I think it is the office of Vodafone by the river.
