Arts
by IceBear7
Düsseldorf is a city of arts.
There is an important arts university, there have been famous painters here in the past (Klee, Beuys), and there is an exciting contemporary arts scene today (Immendorf). Galleries and museums in every corner.
Having the choice I normally miss all the interesting exhibition and suddenly realise they are already over. I managed to go to a small but fabulous photo exhibition with photos taken by Nickolas Muray of his lover Frida Kahlo. Wonderful pictures!
Exhibition is running on the first floor of the NRW Forum until January 2005.
Great food and a nice bar in an old petrol station
by sabsi about Minol
A stylish bar in an old filling station in the media port district. On the pics you can see Chistina showing her peppermint tea - even the tea is stylish ;) The food here is lovely, too!!!! It changes from week to week and you will always find something tasty! Creative !
Shovel down some Soup
by Zandra about Löffelbar
“Löffelbar" - "Spoon Bar"…I guess the name says it all?! Löffelbar, Düsseldorf's first soup bar, serves a variety of soups in different sizes, but also offers salads, casseroles and other small dishes. Löffelbar is located a little bit off the city centre, but the good and cheap food still makes a visit worthwhile. The young staff is friendly and provides a fast service.
The opening hours are:
Monday-Friday 11.00- 01.00
Saturday & Sunday 10.00- 01.00 Some kind of soup…but I can’t say which one since the menu changes regularly (every week?!). Those of you who like spicy food can at Löffelbar spice it up with the Siracha chili sauce (Flying Goose Brand). It’s VERY hot (contains 70% chili)….so please use with care…
Rheinturm
by sandysmith
Built in 1982 and towering 234m over the city, the telecommunications tower is the highest building in Dusseldorf - you can't fail to miss it. The weather wasn't wonderful the day we visted so we skipped the elevator ride to the top and its revolving glass fronted restaurant.
I'm sure the views would be wonderful but I'll save that for another visit.
Colorium
by antistar
Another very striking building in the Media Harbour, on the opposite side of the water to Gehry's Neuer Zollhof, is the Colorium, by British architects Alsop of London. What I like most about this building is how they turned a relatively boring 17 story, 62 meter high office block into a thing of impressive beauty by the simple use of coloured blocks on the sides. Without the need for flambouyant (and expensive) alterations of the basic building's design, the architects produced a wonderful addition to the harbour that serves as an object lesson to town planners everywhere.
