Weeze airport - getting there

by Ineshuks

I forgot one more question in my previos topic :)
I'm little confused about bus schedule to Dusseldorf Weeze airport. We're going to leave by plane to London at 9:15 but first bus from centre to airport goes only at 7:00 and arrives in airport at 8:15. If it's just little late, we can miss a plane. Is there any other possibility how to get to airport little timely?

Well, look at the airport website (http://www.airport-weeze.de/2-3_an_und_abreise_bus_und_bahn.php?lang=en) - you'll see that there is a train that runs to Kevelaer, then you can catch a bus to the airport...of course, even though the train leaves at 6:39 a.m., you only get to the airport at 8:06 a.m....not much of an improvement ;-)

See http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en?ld=212.54&seqnr=3&ident=fu.02727712.1131392281&OK#focus for the detail on this trip at the German railway site.

Also note that while the airport site says "For travel information, please visit www.bahn.de and enter Niederrhein Tor 1 as the destination railway station. " - in fact, the bahn.de website wants you to say "Flughafen Niederrhein Tor 1, Weeze" as the destination.

I am also presuming that when you arrive at Kevelaer at 7:39 a.m. on the train, that you could probably take a taxi direct to the airport...this may matter since the bus runs only every 30 minutes...

I was using the Niederrhein airport many times and as it so small and have only one terminal and three gates that you will have no problems even if you get there half an hour before departure. The traffic in the morning is more to the opposite direction so usually the bus is on time and you should be all right.

This airport is mainly used just by Ryanair.
And the shuttle buses are coordinated with the Rynair flights.
http://www.schilling-reisen.de/Weeze/Fahrplan301005.htm

1 hour before departure is plenty of time in Weeze. And if the shuttle bus is late Ryanair will be more flexible than if you arrive late as a single passengers.

The buses are usually timed to coincide with the Ryanair flights. You should usually check in 40 minutes before departure. After that they won't allow you to board.

I actually missed my flight becuase I missed the bus and arrived at the airport with only 15 minutes before flight departure.

Thankfully I spent a night in a cheap hotel in the wonderful catholic villiage of Kevelaer. You should really check this place out if you have time.

Travel Tips for Düsseldorf

Visit the museum Kunstsammlung...

by Traub

Visit the museum Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen (Grabbeplatz 5). There are many beautiful paintings of the modern arts artists, like Dali, Kadinsky, Miró, Ernst, Lichtenstein, Mondrian and Picasso, which I like.

Those were the days

by sabsi about Monkey Island

There once was a beach beergarden in Düsseldorf. It was located at the end of one of the peninsulas in the media port, there were sandy beaches, beer, other drinks, lots of - mostly very trendy - young people enjoying the summer and great views and atmosphere here. It felt like holidays in the city actually!

Unfortunately the Monkeys had to close because new buildings had to be built on its spot. The people of Düsseldorf cried and remember the good times that were had by all here. There is a new Monkey's bar and club in town but it's a very posh place and I have never visited. Apparently there is a new beach bar as well, on top of Peek & Cloppenburg store in the middle of the shopping area. This means it's also in the middle of traffic so I haven't been there. Beach wear and leisure look was ok. It was fun to watch people dressed to kill trying to walk on high heels through the pepples ;-)

Internet Cafe

by antistar about Klimatsiert Internet Bistro Cafe

Not so much food, but a great way to while a way an hour or so before your train leaves, or before your room at the hotel is ready, especially when it is snowing a blizzard like the day I was there. This is one of the best Internet cafes I have been too. The service is friendly, the Internet access cheap (2 euros per hour) and there are plenty of computers to sit at. The place is well air-conditioned too, meaning the ubiquitous German smokers don't stink your clothes up too much. It's also conveniently close to the station, and appears to be open 24-7. The only problem with it that I had was that the toilets were pretty dirty.

'Kö' (Königsallee)

by TinyTuck

It´s supposed to be Germany´s most expensive shopping street. But even if you don't have 100s and 1000s of Euros to spend it is worth to take a walk along the street and look at the elegant shops for the high society. Needless to say that it's a phenomenous spot for people watching! This is the place to "see and be seen"!
