Media Port
The Media Port is a pretty smart area of town. Along the bank of the Rhine a little way from the Altstadt, it is the home of a variety of media companies, and also the home of Dusseldorfs TV and communications tower.

Hallo John,
I´m from Germany - and Dohmann, live in Düsseldorf 1983 to 1986. My englisch is not very good -sorry. Now I live 200 km from the town. Greetings from Germany
Ute Dohmann-Bannenberg
My grandpa was a Dohmann, but when he came to America he americanized his name to Dohman. Quite a few of his relatives located in the Chicago area and branched out from there. We also found Dohman family in Minnesota we think are distant relatives. There are still Dohmann relatives in Germany and members of my family go over about once a year to visit and they send relatives over to the reunion here when they can. If you would like me to get information on them
I'll see what I can do...Is it possible you are a lost relative too?

Dad swam in the Rhine when he was a kid and the Dohmann hotel is owned by relatives.

Residents incl. kids (males and females) who use a train southward only at times they got customized to the following habit:
When they take a train leaving central station and going to the South (Benrath, Cologne, Frankfurt) they watch out to the left side. Half a minute after a train left central station you see a house in the 1950's style named 'Bahndamm' on the left hand side in driving direction. All windows have numbers, some of them even a girl-name additionatly. The ladies like to stand in the open windows presenting their courageous underwear to the people in the trains.
The attached photo was taken in January at freezing weather conditions. That's why all windows are closed. But if you look into window 36 (middle floor - left of red) you will discover such a lady.
Flights to DUS are quite frequent and easily accessible. Air France is how we arrived.
Driving and Parking can be a hassel. Definately buy a map. The trains are very friendly, you can buy a 4er ticket which will give you two round trips on any train in town for about 5,60 Euro.
Walking is also a nice way to get around.
The taxis are a bit pricey, but still cheaper than NYC.
I really liked the design of this "monument". We came across it by accident and it has taken me ages to find any info on it until recently.
Mack-Brunnen (named after it's creator)
Standort: Platz der Deutschen Einheit
Künstler: Heinz Mack (1988)
Material: Beton / Edelstahl / Naturstein (Concrete/high grade steel/natural stone)
Wissenswertes:
Die 3 dreieckigen großen Brunnen-Segel (3,6,9m hoch)
sind von Wasserfontänen umgeben.
Interesting fact: (well... that's debatable :)) The 3 large triangular sails (3,6,9m high) are surrounded by a water fountain.
Many thanks to my VT friend pieter-jan v for helping me find this information!
This beautiful Medieval church in the old town, built in 1288 is the oldest building in the city - the slightly twisted steeple was an accident caused by builders using damp timbers! Unfortunately I didn't have time to go inside!
