Dusseldorf - Hemminkeln

by oxanik

HI!
I arrive in Dusseldorf airport in December. Is it possible to buy direct train ticket to Hamminkeln? Where can I do it? What is the price of the ticket to one way? How long time does it takes to get there by train? Are there any other possibilities how to get from airport to Hamminkeln? how much does it costs?

Thanks :)

http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en, entering Düsseldorf Flughafen (DUS) - airport has its own railway station - and Hamminkeln, you can find connections, times (between 1h10 and 6 hrs!) and some prices on that site, cost depends which type of train you take.

There are 2/1 hourly (depends on the time of the day) connections from Düsseldorf Airport to Hamminkeln with 1 change of trains in Wesel. Travel time is 1:01. Single ticket is EUR 12,40. There are no (better) alternatives.

You can also find train times, details and fares in English here:

http://www.bahn.de/international/view/en/index.shtml

Choose 'Duesseldorf Flughafen' for the airport.

You will be able to buy your ticket at the airport station, either using notes/coins in the ticket machines (which will almost certainly have English language options) or at the ticket office (which may charge a small extra fee). I'm not sure if you can use your card in the machines but it will have to have chip technology anyway.

Travel Tips for Düsseldorf

Choose that corner

by Goldenboy

Sometimes you will just need things that you know well. For a cup of coffee, let say. What a relieve after walking around the block, and you can slurp a frappe, or ice blended coffee. Some people cursing on its tasteless coffee, but i just cant miss its 'common' flavour blended coffee. Besides, they have a strategic corner, to see, and to be seen. :D Hey, youre free! In this very corner, i feels like i saw outside are German. You have your idea on German, anyway. Old, straight, strict, neat, ... ahh no. Those people will distracting you. Its cool.

Air

Dusseldorf has it's own airport, but there are many nearby airport that are very accessible too, so it's worth shopping around for the best deal. Dusseldorf is a major international airport, with destinations on four continents, and you can be in Dusseldorf city centre in minutes by train. Another "Dusseldorf" airport, Weeze Airport, is popular with budget airlines, especially Ryanair, but it's not really in or near Dusseldorf at all.

Cologne/Bonn airport isn't as busy as Dusseldorf but it's probably more convenient than Weeze Airport. and has a lot of destinations served by two of Germany's high quality budget airlines: Air Berlin and Germanwings. These serve a host of major European cities, including Budapest, London and Copenhagen. They are joined by a number of other budget airlines, like EasyJet and Wizz Air, as well as a small number of national airlines, including Turkish Airlines, Air France and even Iran Air.

The airport is easy to get to from Dusseldorf. There are public buses and a busy train station (accessibly via the Sky Train). And if you are in a rush there's always a taxi. Check the website for details.

Mengwasser

by IceBear7 about Mengwasser

The place is very basic, just wooden tables, orange chairs, without a lot of decoration. Lots of magazines, nice student atmosphere but also with other guests (who used to be students?). Some tables outside as well, but at a very busy road, so I prefer inside.

The building itself is full of history - it was originally built as a hotel in 1896, with a busy pub and betting office. Today there are offices, apartments and a nice pub/ restaurant. Salad with "Maultaschen" and Schumacher Alt!

Walk along the Rheinufer

by Bigs

Especially in summer you should take a walk along the banks of the rhine and watch the ships and people pass by.......There are also some beergardens in summer, so you even can have a drink and talk over the newest gossip or the people that pass by........... :)
