DB Offers-Help!.....Going Rome

by martin981

Probably some German friends can help. I find an interesting offers in DB website.

'Sommer-Spezial-Preis.Für 29 EUR quer durch Deutschland.'

http://www.bahn.de/pv/view/angebote/sparen/sommer_spezial.shtml

Is this offer valid all over Germany? Can I travel between any two destinations one way in 29 euros.

I am planning to go to Rome with five of my friends starting from Dusseldorf (after arriving to Niederrhein by Vbird). All flight tickets to Rome are sold out and hence contemplating this long train journey. I am planning to go to Munich with this Summer Special price and from there to Rome by Euro Night using 'spar night' offer. Total expense will be 58 euros one way. Anybody got any alternative cheaper suggestions?

Thank you for that hint. As I understand it, this offer is valid all over Germany. The conditions say:

Offer is valid only in july and august.
Booking at least 3 days in advance.
Travelling - at least partly - in long-distance trains (ICE, IC/EC and IR).
Only valid on the booked connection - you cannot take another train.
No refund possible.
The offer limited - about 30.000 seats are available each day.

An alternative for your trip to Rome could be to fly with Ryanair. They have Rome as a destination from Frankfurt-Hahn and Karlsruhe. See their website for further information (www.ryanair.com).

Enjoy your trip

When you say flight tickets are booked out, have you checked flights from Cologne/Bonn airport? That's just around the corner from Niederrhein and easily accessible by train.
Germanwings (www.germanwings.de) have just advertised a "crazy night" for tonight, Friday, starting at 7 pm German time, and it's worth checking Hapag Loyd as well (www.hlx.com).
Of course, you'll see more if you go by train...

Travel Tips for Düsseldorf

English language cinema

by sabsi

If you are looking for English language films you should head to the Forum Oberkassel. There's always 2 or 3 films shown in the original version here. On Wednesday evenings there's a sneak preview (= you don't know what film will be shown) on here every week at 8.15 pm - and films are shown in their original versions.

Tickets only cost 4.20 for the preview! Normal prices are around 5-6 Euro.

The address is Hansaallee 245, 40549 Düsseldorf. Take subway 74 or 76 to Lörickerstrasse.

The tourist attraction: Uerige

by sabsi about Uerige

A traditional old brewpub in Düsseldorf's old town and one of its main tourist attractions. This place is always crowded, no matter whether you come on Sunday afternoon or Friday night.

Waiters (who are called "Köbes" here) are grumpy but son't worry. It's part of their image and the Uerige wouldn't be the same without them...

The beer brewed by Uerige has kind of a strong taste, not my favourite but after a few beers you get used to it! None. Everybody goes here - young, old, rich, poor .. everybody!

Good asian food

by wilde13 about Phoenix

There are not so many vietnamiese restaurants in Düsseldorf, but at least a very good and not expensive one.

The Phoenix is quite in the Bank area situated and offers lunch too.
At lunch, the restaurant is highly frequented.
But the athmosphere will change for Dinner. The women wear typical vietnamiese clothes, very colorfull.
The food is very good and there are various dishes. Mostly i take what i dont know.

by Traub

Shopping on Kö. Laying in the center of the city it is one of Europe´s biggest boulevards. Gucci, Jil Sanders, Escada and all the other luxery companies are here. But there are also 'normal' shops, restaurants, galleries and much more. An absolutely must-visit!

Wilhelm-Marx-Haus

by antistar

What most distinguished this building for me was the large neon Persil sign on Grabenstr. side of the tower. It made it look like something straight out of Time Square in New York, only in miniature. That was likely the intention when it was built, being one of the first (if not the first) multistory office towers in Germany. According to the German press at the time it was built, the tower was, at 57 meters and 13 floors, the largest reinforced concrete building in Europe.
