Carnivals
by Carnation
Don't miss the biggest fun fair on the Rhine starting July. Every July, the Sankt-Sebastianus marksmen's guild celebrate its traditional local festival on the Rhine meadows.
Duesseldorf is one of the strongholds of Rheinisch carnivals along with Cologne and Mainz. Between the 11th November and Ash Wednesday, more than 600 carnival sessions and fancy dress balls take place.
The Landtag (North Rhine-Westphalia's state parliament) with its spectacular round building on the banks of the River Rhine. Take a visit to the Rhine tower, which rises above the North Rhine Westphalia government building. You can see the city, countryside and river. On a clear day you can even see the towers of Cologne cathedral.

Rheinbad

My favourite swimming pool in D?sseldorf. Huge area for kids and non-swimmers so if you want to do some "proper" swimming the big pool is the place to be.
And why it is so special: the airport is very close to this pool so while you are swimming you can watch planes take off (or land) and you can dream about the far-away places they go to.
UPDATE: They also have an indoor pool which is great in the winter. Almost every night they have aqua fitness classes. Always quite busy for proper swimming but ok. The water is great but try to avoid using the bathrooms and changing rooms...
No better transportation?
by AndyRG
Dusseldorf is a perfect example about the transportation system of a city nowadays. It is easily accessible by plane -just a few minutes by train to the centre- or train, it has one of Europe's most modern railway stations (20 lines), located in the centre of the city. This kind of conveyance you see can be better used in the old city...
Best Ice Cream In Town...
by steventilly about Unbehaun's
An ice cream shop/parlour. You can sit in and eat, but take-away seems to be the most popular option. People come here from all over the city for their tubs of home-made ice cream. You see people going away with stacks of the stuff all wrapped in newspapers, the way the English take their fish & chips.
Don't be fooled by the prices - for 1.5 Euro I got way too much Ice Cream. Go for the small size - there will be enough, believe me. Uhm, that would have to be Ice Cream. Doh!
Modern Architecture

On the banks of the Rhine, and just beyond the Rheinturm are three office buildings designed by Frank Gehry. The three buildings look similar, but the outside finishes are different - aluminum, brick, and some white finish.
Sabsi told us that these buildings are office buildings with exorbitant rents - the type that expensive lawyers use. Later, we had to go check these buildings out.
