I don't think your chances to get specialized books like this in English are high in Düsseldorf. Secondary literature to Nabokov in German, no problem, but in english... don't think so. But you can always order english language books from amazon.de - from 20 Euro they have free delivery.
Nearby Dusseldorf there was a wine tasting festival. We visited for the afternoon and had a thoroughly good time, trying a whole variety of German wines. Of course we bought a box of wines too to take home with us.
Wine festivals are a common occurance in the wine producing areas along the Rhine (we visited another in Bingen Am Rhine). This one in Mettman is maybe a little unusual, being quite far from its home vineyard.
This little ice cream place only offers 5 different flavours of ice cream: Vanilla, Chocolate, Nut, Strawberry and Lemon. You can have a pot filled with all of them - they are all lovely (and this must be true, because I normally hate chocolate & nut icecream!)
On the KoningAllee. This was the first place we came across and it was close to 3 pm already and we hadn't had lunch. So we decided to eat here.
Its part of a big chain. Though I have only seen it in Germany.
The food was good. The guys raved about the steak and I had a sweet corn soup and baked vegetables. Good stuff!
This was one of the few places I knew about in Düsseldorf and I was eager to see it so Sabsi took us here and I was not disappointed with it - just the weather as a November afternoon did nothing to all those fascinating buildings when photographing of course. The Media Harbour is a bit of Docklands goes Germany as it is an old Rhineside harbour area which has been developed into offices and where new fascinating buildings have also sprung up (see next tip). The little climbing men became just one of my favourites (see third picture). You can see from the people and cars that you meet here that this is an area full of big business and especially advertising agencies and the like, but it is quite lively and has several interesting-looking restaurants I'd like to try upon return.
The Rathaus (or Town Hall) stands in the centre of the Altstadt. In front of it is a square where there is often some kind of festival or event taking place. This was true when we visited, a festival to raise money for the flood victims of eastern europe.
