Train to Dusseldorf Airport

by dougie5419

What is the best way to get to the main Dusseldorf airport from Dusseldorf train station. Seems to be a few different ways on vrr website. Also is the cost 1.10 or 2.10 euro - don't quite understand A* tariff.

Direct S-Bahn trains are the best way.

EUR 2,10.
A* are short hop tickets valid just for 3-4 stops. The stops you can reach on such a ticket a listed on the timetable displays of each stop.

Travel Tips for Düsseldorf

Oldest Building in Altstadt

by sandysmith

In a small square in the altstadt is this lovely old building - Schlosser Alt - said to be the oldest building here. Note its date at the top of the building - 1288. Loved the brick syled edge to the house.

Rose Garden

by IceBear7

After living in D?sseldorf for 2 1/2 years I discovered this beautiful little rose garden behind the city museum.

There are benches around where people relax and read the newspapers, others make plans to change their lives (not me, yet...).

Really off the beaten path!

Don´t miss the bruschetta !

by PatSteffen about La Pergola

Even though this is not one of the biggest places (only three tables inside), it´s a nice place to go if you are looking for a really good Pizza, Pasta, Salad or daily meat and seafood specials. They have a nice patio in the back of the building, which is even open in winter ,when there is extra heating.
Try the bruschetta as a starter and you´ll see, what you can expect from the entrées.
The owners speak german, italian and french. Try the homemade pizza, the owner does the dough everyday after a secret recipe.
My favourite Pizza is the one which spinach and tuna. It´s topped with melted cheese and has the owners own tomato sauce.
Or try Pizza Marinara (tuna and capers add extra spinach) which is my husbands favourite.

Have a Look at the Historical Town Hall

by DanielF

The Rathaus is one of the most charismatic buildings in the Düsseldorf's Altstadt. It was built in the second half of the XVI century, when Düsseldorf was still a small town. The size of the building was not in line with the significance of the town for which it was built and, therefore, the construction works required a supplementary financial effort by the local authorities. Luckily, the Town Lord at the time was William the Rich, and the city could finally afford its Rathaus, which was built in just three years.

The building has been renovated and rebuilt on a number of occasions, so that eventually its typical Lower Rhine Renaissance style was totally defigurated. However, the last reconstruction project, after WW II, envisaged the recovery ot the original brick façade of the building and used the plans designed by the original architect. The interior of the building was instead rebuilt in a functional style in order to provide the city offices with all the amenities that the technology of the time could render.

Schloßturm on Burgplatz

by Mariajoy

Until 1882 there was a castle here - but it burnt down and all that remains is the castle tower (Schloßturm). It is now a multimedia museum called "Leben am Strom" (Life on the river) and there is also a cafe at the top where you can enjoy a coffee while watching the river roll by.
