Driving into Dusseldorf from weeze

by mavchick

I have made the mistake of not realizing weeze is 80km away and only on a day visit. If I rent a car and drive toward dusseldorf is there a park and ride so I don't have to drive right into the centre? If so where is the easiest to get to from weeze and do you know how much it costs? Thanks in advance.

I would not recommend to rent a car for a day trip, it's just too expensive here and i hate driving in Duesseldorf.

Just buy a Trainticket in Weeze ("NRW-Tarif" - 12,50 Eur) and go by train. Takes about 1hour 10 minutes.

Trains are going every hour. You'll find train informations on www.bahn.de

there is however an inexpensive car rental at the airport renting out these small smart city hopper cars. It would make you a bit more flexible and save you the bus transfer from the airport to Weeze train station. I would tend to agree with the preceding post though that if you want to visit just Düsseldorf, I'd rather take the train. Especially if you have daytime arrival and departure times. Should one of these be very late or very early, renting a car might be a feasible alternative.

You also could take a bus from Weeze to Dusseldorf; it will take 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Travel Tips for Düsseldorf

Bridges

by sandysmith

Several bridges span the Rhine in Dusseldorf and crossing them provides great views back onto the city itself. The media port still has new buildings being constructed - yet more offices! - a bridge was also being built across - will save having to walk all the way around that for sure. Anyway we had a laugh watching the workmen having their lunch - mates were rowing across to them in a little dinghy and they were having a fun time egging them on and whistling tunes!

Nordpark

by sabsi

This is the park where the Aqua Zoo and the Japanese Gardens are located. The Japanese Gardens are rather small but quite cute, the Aqua Zoo is not really my cup of tea (too many stuffed animals and fishes). And the Nordpark is a nice place for a walk in the sun or a game of Boule.

Special event in February/ March

by elbe about Tour de Menu - More than 40 restaurants in 17 days

Every year since 2000 many restaurants in Düsseldorf take part at the "Tour de Menu". Each restaurant offers a special menu (in year 2003 it was from € 9,90 to € 50). The restaurants are quite different: "down-to-earth-food", scene-restaurants, Asian, Italian, everything is offered. In any case you should book seats!! In 2004 the Tour de Menu started on March 4th and last until March 21st. For every taste you find a wonderful menu!

Have A Drink By The River

by AnnS

On the banks of the river are cafes where you can enjoy a drink and a snack whilst watching the river traffic pass by. Some are even open during winter, and have heaters, so you can still enjoy some winter sun on your face.

City Gate

by Leipzig

The new Düsseldorf City Gate was built on the southern end of the Rhine tunnel. This modern office building was built in 1998 out of galss and steel and houses some governmental offices. It received an Oscar for its architecture as the best office building!
