Keep in mind that the 10th April is Good Friday, everything will be closed.Saturday stores will be open, but expect them to be very busy.
I don't know any Americal markets in Düsseldorf, but the Karstadt store here in Mannheim used to have a large American section. Try the one in Düsseldorf.

April 10 the shops are closed, that is correct, but Saturday the 11th should be fine, so if you are still around in Dusseldorf, you can go to the market in the morning and then continue to the Netherlands. I recommend to go to the market at the Carlsplatz in the Altstadt (old town) - there should be good choice of fine food, as everyone will be shopping for the Easter Sunday lunch. Karstadt Dept. Store is also a good choice if you want some American food but I undestandt this is not what what you are looking for exactly. One other hint: close to the Carlsplatz market - visit the Münstermann fine food shop - just around the corner... www.muenstermann-delikatessen.de

To sit at the Rhine in summer, smell the river, feel the wind with a friend has a really special flair! What I miss most? To walk through the Altstadt with friends and enter some bars like 'Till Eulenspiegel'

Carrying Patients in former times

by sjazeerah

This old stretcher is quite different to those we know by watching 'Emergency Room' on TV. It was used in 1850 in Diakonissenanstalt Kaiserswerth on the Rhine.
I wonder about the cover on top. Was it used in general or only for expired / passed away Patients?
I found this stretcher in the entrance of the nursing directorate / PDL (Pflegedienstleitung) of
Florence Nightingale Hospital
Düsseldorf - Kaiserswerth

How to reach from Duesseldorf or Duisburg: take the subway U79 to station Barbarossaplatz (central Kaiserswerth). The Hospital is on the right side of the tram trail when coming from Duesseldorf. The Rhine with the imperial castle is on the left side.

Airport arrival

by wilde13

The airport is will situated to the city. There is a good and fast airport connection from main station to airport by S-Bahn. Take the S-6 and it will bring you within 15 minutes to the city center for € 1,90. Follow the green signs "S" at the airport.
Taxi is around € 15.

Zum Hirschchen

by sabsi about Zum Hirschchen

The Hirschchen ist something like our living room. We often go here if we're too lazy to cook or if one of us feels like a beer. Apart from friendly waiters and the typical brewpub atmosphere (Hirschchen is the main pub of Schlösser brewery) this place offers the best pork knuckles in town and several other tasty things. They have a standard menu but there are daily offers, too. These change every day. As I don't like to eat pig's legs I normally choose something different all the time. The fried potatos are nice, so are the chicken wings and most of the stuff you order from the daily changing menu.

Rheinturm

by martin_nl

At one stage when you walk along the Rhine river you get to the Rheinturm. If you pay a few euri you can take the lift to the top of the tower, from where you will have a great view of the city and the outskirts. Since the glass windows of the tower are diagonally placed you can lay on it and see exactly wat happens beneath you. Laying on the glass can be some good therapy if you are scared of heights!
