Dress Code?

by cessna152

We are going to Dusseldorf for New Year's Eve and are obviously going to hit the town. We are not interested in the clubbing scene, only wanting to go into a few bars. So my question is this: is there any sort of dress code for getting into places (like there seems to be in certain UK places) i.e. wearing smart trousers? Or is it just casual?

Thanks in advance,

Jason

RE: Dress Code?

Absolutely none! The only thing to stop you getting in will be the crowds. It's a very popular place and I guess on New Year's Eve it will be very busy. There are plenty of bars around Bolkerstrasse and a wide choice of musical tastes.
Alten Brandenburg or the Auberge is rock and heavy metal. The White Bear is also rock. Julios and Zwiebel are mixed rock and pop. I don't do soul, modern or jazz so don't ask me where they play that crap. I don't do clubs either. You'll have a whale of a time whatever you like. Schlussel and Schumachers are brewery houses and there's loads more. Plenty of eating houses and I recommend the take away pizza places. Most Dusseldorf beer is Alt and it's dark and malty. Pils beers are available but most people drink the dark stuff. Enjoy.

Thanks for that. Glad we won't have to get dressed up like a t****r! Looking forward to trying the Alt you describe.

Travel Tips for Düsseldorf

Carlstadt

by DanielF

This neighborhood is the enlargement of the city made in the XVIII century. It consists of straight streets lined with noble houses and office buildings. It is one of the most chic areas in central D?sseldorf.

The floor of the Rheinpromenade

by sabsi

"Blind people can only walk along here when they are drunk"... that's what a friend of mine used to say about this pavement. When you look at it from the side it looks like the path is not straight but it has waves. A funny feature for a path along the river I think.

Uerige

This is the coolest place in the old town, great place for the old tradition Alt Bier. If the weather is good you will just enjoy sitting or probably standing outside and having beer. I only had (many) beers

Visit the Botanic Garden

by matjung

If its a sunny afternoon and you have a few hours to spare you may head for the Botanic Gardens. There are toilet facilities and a vending machine for cold drinks.
Best of all, its admission free.
In the green house there is a selection of flora from all over the world.
The area features a huge out door garden with duck pond and frog pond.

Rhine Tower

by TinyTuck

The top of the Rhine Tower (TV Tower) is the ideal spot for a great view all over the city! There's a café up there and a turning restaurant.
At night the Rhine Tower (TV Tower) tells you the exact time if you calculate the amount of burning lights that are diveded into 3 levels (in between the red lights): The upper level shows the hours. The middle one shows the minutes whereas one lamp stands for 10 minutes each in the upper part and for 1 minute in the lower part of this same level. The lowest level counts the seconds in the same way as it works for the minutes. Got it? So, what time was it when the photo was taken? Exactly 02:29:39!
