One of the most interesting aspects of Duisburg?s city hall is its ?Paternoster?. Walk inside it and you will see one of the few surviving, functioning examples of this kind of early lift system around. The Paternoster is constantly moving up and down and you?ll have to simply jump on and off at the right moment. As a kid it took me a few years to gain the courage to sneak in and drive further than the top floor. Would the whole thing be turned upside down? Would I be shaken around when the upward moving Paternoster finally goes into descent mode again? Well, as you can guess the answer was far more prosaic in the end?.. Go and check it out yourself!
