Visit the zoo
by challenger
The Duisburg Zoo is an absolute must see if you’re in or around Duisburg. It is on huge premises and is one of the best-kept zoos you are ever likely to find. It has the biggest ape house in Europe and has successfully managed to raise dolphins and whales in captivity.
Don’t miss the dolphin show or the whale feeding…..
Duisburg zoo - big apes
by belgianchocolate
One of the things that this zoo has put great effort in was its apes exhibit...In the sixties the zoo had the largest and most modern apes-house at the time. More then thirty years later it was a sad thing to see. Now the gorillas can enjoy a large outside island , and in a cave after a glass it is possible to watch them very close in the eyes.
Like most zoos in the world they have western lowland gorillas. Other habitans of the building are orangs (chimps have moved) some smaller monkeys and sloth (see the other tips)
What's not to like about a bit of colour?
by challenger
What’s that? It’s funny, cheerful and adds a touch of a colour to an otherwise drab and grey city? Yep, it’s Nikki de Saint-Phalle’s fountain, the “Lifesaver”. And guess what: Most of the locals hate it! When will they ever learn? ;-)
My Home Away From Home

"My Family Tree"
Duisburg happens to be the hometown of my grandma and all of her side of the family. I spent 2 weeks in Duisburg in August of 2000 and enjoyed all the time with my family and traveling around the area. My boyfriend, Jason, and I will be going back to Duisburg and using it as a homebase location for our 6 month Europe trip next May. Can't wait to see one of my best friends again...my cousin Tanja!

This is the Gasometer in which you can scuba dive (at least they're promising that everybody can from May 2001 - so far it's only possible for club members). They put a car wreck and a broken yacht on the ground, to add some atmosphere. I've never dived, but it sure sounds interesting.

It may look a lot like this.
These are the pictures I took with my Lomo - it hasn't got a flash. On purpose, of course.
Guess, you just have to accept the poor quality of the photos. Sorry.
Just in case you haven't noticed: This is a staircase.
Science Fiction... double feature... Doctor X... oh, yes, a staircase again. Really.
"... you'll see this."
These are the trees surrounding the Gasometer. Looks very nice with the green lights shining on them...
