Ibis hotel

During our 5-days tour of the Ruhr region we were looking for something clean, affordable and centrally located. The original plan was to stay in Essen but since prices were higher that week due to the Essen Fair, we chose Gelsenkirchen instead and stayed here for all 5 nights.

Unique Quality: Hotel Ibis is situated in the center of Gelsenkirchen, close to the Main railway station and shopping pedestrian zone. The hotel offers rooms for a unique price of 49 Eur per night, which comes to almost hostel-like price of 25 Eur per person if you choose double rooms.

Same like the hotel itself - rooms were nothing exceptional, but they were clean and efficiently furnished, each with a private bathroom and a TV set. The price did not include breakfast, but you can get it for additional 9 Eur. Which may be a bit overpriced, but breakfast was OK, with a wide selection of cereals, bread rolls, jams and German salami and sausages. (If only they knew how to make a better coffee it would be excellent).

  • Opinion of Price: less expensive than average
