Westfalen is a varied part of Germany. From the bustling Ruhrgebeit , to the Teutoberger Wald there is much to Experience. If you're interested in a German city where you WON'T hear English spoken try Hamm. Its a major railcenter, so finding a Bundesbahn connection should be no problem . The Bahnhof is right in Centrum, so its an easy walk thru town This is a city that was heavily hit in the Second World War,but has recovered in fine fashion with tree lined Pedestrian Street, homey pubs, and people who are friendly to Americans. (There is a DuPont Plant nearby that once brought a few score American families to the area-Mine being one of them). If you're interested in seeing what the present day multi-cultural Germany is like without the touristic facade, this may be an interesting daytrip. Its no Rothenburg for sure, but it is the real Germany.
