Hotel Sibegebirge: Great Family Run Hotel in Königswinter
I've stayed in this hotel several times, including for an entire month in 2001. Its a friendly, old fashioned place with reasonable prices and excellent service. The rooms are not elegant, but they are pleasant. The proprietor, a former cruise ship cook, runs an excellent restaurant in the hotel, which offers not only typical German specialities but some creative offerings as well. It's a good place to escape the usal German offering of heavy fried foods, potatoes, and gravy. The hotel's location, right on the pedestrianized main street, is very favorable, albeit sometimes a bit noisy.. The Rhine, with its row of more elegant hotels and restaurants are just a block away, and it is an easy walk to the little train station, where the train that takes you up the side of the mountain to the Drachenfels ruins. There are also lots of nice walking trails in the nature reserve, Germany's oldest. The hotel is a short walk from the train station, and there is street car service to Bonn. Elegant Bad Godesberg is on the other side of the river, and there is regular ferry service. In other words, you can enjoy the whole package without a car, and its only about an hour by train from Cologne. Rhine cruise boats also call here.
Very nice people
