Since 1921 Siku Model Cars are one of the largest producers of modelled mini cars. Hence the MK number plate for the Märkische Kreis is one of the most distributed number plates in the world. More then 27 Million models are produced every year. The factory is at home here in Lüdenscheid though the Siku museum is situated in Stadlohn a different town.
Ludenscheid is in South Westphalia, it is not really a tourist town, but it is a good example of medium sized German town and by visiting there you can see some other side of Germany. It is most famous for few factories in the line of lights industry. Official site
The Bundesverdienstkreuz (Federal Award Cross) the highest decoration the Federal Republic of Germany presents is produced in Lüdenscheid. Hence each time the Federal President presents a medal it was made here in the city.
Something I also learned during my visit to Lüdenscheid that the company Erco which is at home in the city manufactured the lights of the pyramid that is the centre of the Louvre in Paris today. The city of light certainly shines its light to far away places.
Every year in the first half of September there is a city festival for a weekend. There is a lot of beer drinking going on as well as music performances. Also, there is a whole variety of local and foreign food stalls.
