Travel Tips for Münster
Gabled houses
by DanielF
When it came to rebuld the city after the destruction in the war, the local authorities were wise enough to restore the most interesting buildings to their original form and to dessign the new buildings in a style that perfectly matches with the oold gabled houses.
Countryside Castles
by phred1910
A nice company that specializes in biking and rollerblading trips that take you from castle to castle in the Muenster area.
We took a nice one day ride (30km) with a stop for lunch at a castle.
Trips are from 4-7 days.
The owner is a friend as a disclaimer. The owner supplies all equipment necessary except a helmet if you want one.
Haus Borg (near Rinkerode)
by MichaelFalk1969
This moated castle with its typical blue-white windows and gates is privately-owned and especially hard to find. It can not be visited, but the exterior can be admired if you walk around the castle. It can be found opposite to the little town of Rinkerode (south of Münster) along road B54. Park your car in Rinkerode, then cross the B54 and go through the tar road with the gate, parallel to the channel, then walk on 200 metres.
Cathedral
by Kuznetsov_Sergey
A first stone was put in a construction of a new (kept up to now) temple in 1225. This is a grandiose and majestic building. Its length is 109 meters, width - 28,3 meters, height of towers - 57,7 and 55,5 meters.
In 1264 the Cathedral was consecrated, in 1390-1395 a monastery and a chapel in honor of Maiden Maria were attached to the main building. In 1508-1522 it was restored and in 1536-1556 - its interior was restored as well.
Aasee
by Gillianina
Aasee. It's a lake just 5 minutes from the city centre. I have nice memories of it, and it's very beautiful when you have the chance to see it when the sun shines (never?! lol) but also by winter when it's all frozen...I find it amazing. :-)
