Cycling tip - Stevern
by egonwegh
Very romantic spot - possibly an old water mill with water running into a small pond. Worth a visit. Go west from Münster-Roxel in the direction of Tilbeck (L 843) and Schapdetten. After Schapdetten turn right (north) to Stevern. Or consult map Freizeitkarte NRW #4 (Münster, Tecklenburger Land).
There is no dull moment here!

Munster has a most intriguing and fascinating history. The city played a major role in many important events in the medieval age and later, events that eventually shaped not just the country but Europe.

Munster is a great place to visit in Germany. I have been there three times to see friends. It is, according to them, one of the few places that had a post-war ordinance to rebuild the way things were pre-World Wars, so it still retains its old-German charm. There is a great rest. with traditional German food, lots of walking and bike paths, good shopping, an active nightlife (including, oddly enough, a SKA scene), and it was also voted the best place in Germany for Bicycles.
Cycling trip - a visit to Stift Tilbeck

We followed several small roads towards Tilbeck, moving roughly parallel to "Landstrasse" L 843. This is me with the free bike from the hotel, with a leaky gel saddle!
This is the report of the first part of our cycling tour along the western edge of Münster, up to and including Stift Tilbeck. During that same trip we also visited Stevern, Havixbeck and Schloss Hülshoff (see our tips).
Haus Brock.
We were here in early March. On 18 January 2007, a violent windstorm - named Kyrill - struck Europe. In this area, not all of the damage had apparently been removed. The route through this part of the forest was blocked by several fallen trees and we had to turn around.

Stift Tilbeck is a religious charitable institution for the mentally and physically handicapped.
Naive painting of the buildings (notice the chapel on the left, and the water tower) - it can be seen in a restaurant on the grounds of Stift Tilbeck.
