" EXCUSE ME, PLEASE..."
Time to leave Berlin and drive direction Rheine.....
A nice collection of pictures all in one card!!!!
" TEA STOP IN......BAD BENTHEIM..."
Here I simply had to have a tea stop because it is the hotel where I slept the first night of my MAY STAY 2001 in Germany .
(please, do feel free to have a look there, it is the last one in the list of GERMANY TRAVELOGUES..), JUST FOR "OLD TIMES' SAKE".
And after that tea: HOME, SWEET HOME !!!
" RHEINE AN DER EMS....."
RHEINE is a town also with its own river EMS.
I arrived there early September, the last day of my 18 days' drive through GERMANY and the day was, once out of the car, colder than I had expected!!!! No coat, no umbrella at hand and it was cold and soon raining...
It was my last stop before driving home again, from the North East of the Netherlands to the South West of my home country!
The first thing I did was order 2 pots of SCHWARZER TEE (black tea = breakfast tea), which meant: 6 cups of hot tea with a little cloud of milk and they definitely made me feel better.
Still shivering in far too thin clothes, I walked to the Tourist information Office, walked through the town center, not too large a center, but nice, bought some postcards and then the skies suddenly split open and began to pour loads of water down on Rheine and me and the temps fell and kept falling so very quickly that I went to my very special hotel very soon, running.....
On the very comfortable bed I enjoyed reading the book I had bought during this trip (in German), till my eyes didn't, couldn't see the letters anymore....time to get some sleep.
By the way: DAS BUCH IST WIE EIN NETZ, BEI DEM DIE WORTE DIE MASCHEN BILDEN. The words of the French author who died during the second world war (disappeared with his aeroplane somewhere above the North Sea, while on a raid) ANTOINE DE SAINT-EXUPéRY.
We all know him from the book "THE LITTLE PRINCE", don't we??
My feelings: home.....but how quickly had they gone by these 18 days......filled with the most wonderful experiences, with walking and walking through all kinds of towns, cities and villages.........my heart and head full to the very brim with impressions of Germany and its people, friendly, good, helpful people.
And the few grumblers I met......well who can tell me where there are NO grumblers: I forgot them immediately!....as they must have forgotten me.......so much the better.
It had been GREAT and EXCITING but the end had come....
one night more in Germany and across the border The Netherlands and my beloved ones were waiting for me......and my stories....
One night of sleep in this very special hotel......and..
" DAS JUGENSTILHAUS (HOTEL)......"
This definitely is one of my favourite STYLES!
And a service......and the breakfast: all in style!!
A real pleasure, which made driving off in the pouring rain, direction HOME a bit easier for me....
" THE OTHER SIDE OF THE CARD...."
See this building, it is on the European Heretiage List!
I can recommend it to you!
" SOME VIEWS......"
Just to get an idea of how Rheine is: a very lovely town! When I arrived it started to rain so I could not possibly take photographs...
" A BIRD'S EYE VIEW......"
No, no, my time there, only a few hours, was too short to climb a tower.......someone else did it for me!
" A NICE VIEW, ISN'T IT?"
Especially on rainy, stormy, cold days......yes, this was my refuge that afternoon! But I only had tea, believe it or not.....
" TOO BAD !!!"
In the pouring rain I parked my car in front of the hotel as close to the doors as possible to get my stuff inside the hotel as dry as possible (NO porter here!!)and forgot about the car, once I had closed the door of my room.
Later in the evening, having a look outside and going down, I found this little pile of papers, all wet through and through, soaked and impossible to open them, let alone read the watery letters, under my wipers: my first and only "ticket" in Germany in 18 days!
I couldn't do anything with the little bundle because the ink was gone, it was too soaked and glued together by the rain, so I just took it home to The Netherlands and till now I haven't heard from them, the German police authorities......
I do hope for the best!
" TO SEE MORE OF RHEINE......"
Some sights I haven't been able to see because of the rain!
