Located to the south of Soest, is a large, and widely unknown mass grave.
Dating back over 5,000 years, this stone burial site doesn't seem like much to most people, but for those with an interest in history, it's a worthwhile detour.
In 1991, over 130 skeletons were excavated from the site.

"Off The Beaten Path"
The medival city of Soest will not leave you feeling unimpressed. Surrounded by 75% of it's original stonewall fortress, this city offers a lively nightscene, shopping, and most importantly, worthwhile sightseeing.
What makes Soest so pleasant is that it's not filled to the brim with American tourists, instead, it's filled with German tourists who have done their best to keep this town a secret. It is also where many popular german sayings have originated from ("that is too much writing for the skin of one cow", "watch your furs or they'll float away.")
Beautiful cathedrals, churches, and buildings dating back to the 1300's allow for this town to really show off without having to make an effort. You can walk the street's for hours, following the dozens of tiny canals that wind through it's center.
Soest, once one of the most important cities in mideval Europe, still offers pristine charm and appeal to the world weary traveler.
