Disabled Access in Neuenahr-Ahrweiler is excellent --surprisingly especially in the old town of Ahrweiler. One of the few places in Germany that really make disabled visitors welcome. All large public car parks around the city walls have disabled parking spaces. There are enough disabled restrooms arond. The pedestrianised streets have cobblestones, but not those really nasty ones. The Ahr valley is wide and almost flat here.
Apollinaris, "The Queen Of Table Waters", is known worldwide. Did you know that the queen's throne, pardon: spring, is situated in - Bad Neuenahr?
In 1852 a winemaker bought a vineyard West of Ahrweiler. The vines he planted, however, wouldn't thrive. He tried to find out why and discovered a mineral spring.
Within a couple of years the new spa town of Bad Neuenahr emerged from nothing.
The Apollinaris spring is situated East of the town center of Bad Neuenahr. There is a fountain outside the factory where you can take the water for free - bring a bottle.
Take a half hour scenic bus ride from Altenahr to Ahrweiler and Bad Neuenahr, following the Ahr river's course through the valley.
Ahrweiler has a beautiful shopping area within the old walls. Take a stroll around the streets, admiring the beautifully painted old buildings.
Bad Neuenahr is not much further along the bus route and is a much busier, modern town.
