AHRWEILER: Synagogue by Kathrin_E
The synagogue was built in 1894 in the so-called Moorish style - note the horse-shoe shaped arches of the windows. In 1938 the building was devastated by the Nazis, the last Jewish inhabitants of Ahrweiler were deported in 1942. Since then there has been no Jewish community in town.In 1981 a private initiative of Ahrweiler citizens bough the building and restored it. Since then it has been used for cultural events.
