Bernkastel-Kues from Frankfurt Hahn Airport
by jules64
My hubby and I have got a fantastic deal on Ryan airways and have decided to visit Bernkastel-Kues for the day and get the flight home that evening! I have been told we can get a shuttle bus to here and would like to know details please, and anywhere nearby we could visit.
We arrive at nine in the morning and have to be back at the airport 13 hours later at ten, so have a lot of time!
Thanks in advance.

You could visit Traben-Trarbach (Jugendstil/Art nouveau architecture) and Cochem (wonderful castle), near Bernkastel-Kues. Both places are on the same route along the Mosel. I enjoyed it very much.
Globetrott has extensive pages on these places, so do I. However, I don't know much about public transportation. There are frequent boats down the Mosel.
You may like to travel to Koblenz by train and take a boat ride down the Mosel.
There is also a train to Traben-Trarbach, from there it is 12 km to Bernkastel-Kues.

Thank you for replying. I just wondered if there is any way to get to the places without hiring a shuttle/taxi.
thank you again.

There's no shuttle bus going directly from Hahn Airport to Bernkastel-Kues, as far as I know. There's a shuttle heading for Trier and if you'd choose to take this bus you could leave in Morbach which is just 18 km from Bernkastel. For more info: http://www.flibco.com/hahn_morbach_lux
The bus leaves Hahn at 10:00 and arrives in Morbach 20 minutes later. There are busses connecting Morbach with Bernkastel. You could also go by taxi as it's not very far.
Cheers,
Elena
Travel Tips for Bernkastel-Kues
Bernkastel-Kues
by globetrott
Bernkastel-Kues is a small town in the Mosel-valley, consisting of 2 parts :
Bernkastel is on the right shore of the river, with the castle Landshut, most of the hotels, restaurants and the old town-square
Kues is on the left shore of the river ( and also on the left of my picture ), it is more a living-area of the local people with only a few hotels . Berncastel is a great place for a quiet vacation and a great point to start excursions to lovely places nearby.
Tiny streets
by globetrott
Some of the streets in Bernkastel-Kues are just 2 meters wide and still the halftimbered houses have ornaments at places, where people would rather not see them at all.
When you click on my picture you may see that even the wooden parts of the facade are painted and decorated in the most beautiful ways.
This street starts at the town-square.
Ruine Landshut / Landshut castle
by globetrott
Castle Landshut is a Must and you may easily get there with your own car or take the funny yellow Mercedes-bus going through the vinyards, leaving at the big parking at the ship-station every full hour.
Kreisstaendehaus
by globetrott
The Kreisstaendehaus is a traditional building for the merchants and trades. The building is next to the big parking , but besides this great side-entrance I did not see anything special, beeing of interest fro the tourists.
Have a look for the great coat of arms with a lobster and bees.
