Dutch Music Group
by yatingchen
In Beilsten we saw already Dutch Music group. To me a big surprise that I could see them play music in Cochem. They wore colorful and played funny music which I never heard before, but Mimi could tell it's Dutch.
They played music walking in a line and then stopped at a pub. The pub displayed German, Dutch and EU flags on door. People came to appreciate their performance in a circle. It's friendship between Germany and Netherlands.
Have your photo taken on the chairlift
by globetrott
When taking the chairlift to Pinnerkreuz, you may have your photo taken on the chairlift. A young lady will ask you first, whether you are interested to have your photo taken, and will then press the button in the very moment, when the castle of Cochem will be included in the background of your postcard .
that is a really clever idea and may be done easily with a digital camera sending the pics by cable to the station on the ground, where you may buy these 2 pics for a total of 7 Euros, after you have taken the chairlift downwards again.
I took this picture of the Lady and her photo-equipment on my way back, you may even see my left knee...
Karden-Treis is about 25km down the Mosel
by globetrott
Karden-Treis is another small village along the river Mosel and my favorite building there is this old building that dates back to the year 1562. At that time it was the seat of the "Schultheis of Kurtrier"
Schultheis was an expression for some sort of a judge and Kurtrier was obviously the province belonging to the city of Trier.
The house is situated next to the trainline and maybe for all the many vibrations every day the foundations of the building sank partly down a bit and you have the feeling the house is falling apart.
Wine rations - Part Two
by JAFA-Rease
As a result of drinking so much wine, some doors required special keyholes. This picture is an example of one of these.
If you look close, there is a large grooved slot leading to the keyhole.
This allowed the one who was "unsteady" from wine to "find the hole".
The Polarbear - carpet
by globetrott
It looks strange and also a bit sad to see the fur of a polarbear mis-used as a carpet inside the castle of Cochem. I saw 2 such carpets and of course in the 19th century people thought differentely about the wildlife and such carpets used to be a symbol of prosperity and a certain proof of travels that the owner of the castle had made.
This polarbear looks really sad and lost all of his teeth already...
