There is no bigger city around the airport. If your flight is very early in the morning or you arrive late at night you can book hotels over www.flyhahn.com.

Lautzenhausen (500 m to 1 km)
Hahn (1 km)
Sohren (2 km)
Most of the hotels are not rated. Some hotels are in walking distance (Lautzenhausen) or have a transport service.

Hahn is most famous for the Hahn airport (or Frankfurt Hahn as Ryanair calls it), where many Ryanair flights leave and arrive.
In the airport's website, the Intercity hotel is described as being "at the airport". It is not true: it is 2 km away. There are closer hotels: Hotel Fortuna in Lautzenhausen, Hotel Strassberger and another one I don't know the name of (between the former two).
A shuttle bus connects the airport with the car park and the hotel, and it is free.
The distance from the airport was a major disappointment.
