Schlosshotel Schoenburg in Oberwesel: a 1st class castle-hotel, 3 km from Kaub

Schlosshotel Schoenburg in Oberwesel is just 3 km from Kaub and it might be there very best 1st class castle-hotel along the river Rhine. The old castle of Schoenburg (the meaning of Schoenburg is "beautiful castle") dates back to the 10th century and today the castle is used partly as a luxury hotel and in another part of it as a "Kolpingheim / hostel" and a hotel next to the castle.

Schlosshotel Schönburg in Oberwesel has a great terrace with a perfect view of the Rhine-valley. You have to leave your car at the parking and your luggage will be taken to the hotel by a small truck.All of the great rooms are facing the river and also the restaurant is well known for its perfect cuisine...

Schloss Rheinfels: another great castle-hotel closeby Kaub

Another great castle-hotel closeby Kaub is Schloss Rheinfels in St. Goar, just 8 km downstream from Kaub. Burg Rheinfels dates back to the year 1245 and it is partly a castle-ruin today and partly it is a modern 4star-hotel that was added close to castle-museum. They have a great restaurant and terrace with a perfect view of the Rhine-valley. (But you don't have to go inside the restaurant in order to enjoy the view of the Rhine, they have a public terrace with a view there as well)

The very best about this hotel Schloss Rheinfels is the perfect view that you have from many of their rooms and from the hotel-terrace, and as you may see on one of my pictures, they even provide a fleet of motor-scooters for their hotel-guests. There is a large parking in front of the hotel and a public bus going to St.Goar on a regular basis.
The noises of the trains will NOT bother you in this hotel !!

Burg-Hotel Liebenstein: stay in a castle-hotel

Now, that Burghotel Gutenstein in Kaub is closed for-ever, why not taking another scenic Rhine-castle as your place to spend the night :
Hotel Burg Liebenstein is an interesting hotel in Kamp-Bornhofen at the right bank of the river Rhine, about 18km downstream from Kaub, and it offers a great panorama-view and lots of possibilities to hike.
The castle-hotel is quite remote and it offers a fews great rooms at reasonable prices - just click on the link below !
I was there in early april, the week before easter and there were just a very few guests, as the street going up is quite steep.

Take a look at my extra-pictures in order to see the great interior of that lovely castle-hotel. They have a great interior with several old Iron armouries, an open fireplace and lovely furniture.

Castle-Hotel: Gutenfels is CLOSED FOREVER !! :-(((

Castle-hotel Schloss Gutenfels is still listed in many places as a hotel, BUT unfortunately this great and romantic Rhine-castle-hotel had been sold recently and will never be re-opened as a hotel again . Take a look at their web-page : The first part looks promissing, BUT read also the very last line at the bottom :
Closed 2006 December 31 and sold to a private person !
The german version is much clearer :
Geschlossen zum 31. Dezember 2006 und an Privat verkauft.
Schloßhotel wird nicht mehr eröffnet
(Castle-hotel will NOT be opened again !!)

The unique qualities of this hotel had been the great position overlooking the river Rhine opposite of the scenic castle Pfalzgrafenstein, at one of the most beautiful places of the river !

Hotel Burg Gutenfels

Yuki dreamed of staying in a castle, so we realized that dream with the help of Burg Gutenfels letting us shack up in its womb. The castle lived up to every expectation I had ever had about a castle. Included were the Kings dining hall, a winery, valley viewing gazebos, gardens and yards. Mideval times were in touch, and put a whole new understanding to what I learned in text books in 3rd grade.

Castle Hotel Burg Gutenfels: Castle Hotel Burg Gutenfels

A Real Castle that was built in 1277.

Rooms are excellent, price was $150 for double room (2 people) and that was one of the cheapest. Great Local Wine.
Lovely MidEval atmosphere! Excellent view on the Rhine river and surroundings.
Castle is on top of the mountain. City Kaub is below.
