It was great to stay in a castle, although there was a young school class there at the same time and they were very noisy... Otherwise I think it would have been better! The rooms are nothing special but it was cool just to know we were in a castle. ;)

a great hostel 35 km from Koblenz

Burg Stahleck in Bacharach - in a distance of 35 km from Koblenz - is an excellent chance to spend the nights inside an old castle with a long history at a really reasonable price. Burg Stahleck offers a perfect panorama-view over the Rhine-valley at moderate prices - see the link to their webpage !
You may park your car in a distance of maybe 200 meters from the castle or take the hundreds of steps from Bacharach - in fact this is maybe not the best place, when you are looking for nightlife in town...

Unique Quality: You may enter the castle freely and without restriction. As a hostel-guest you may even use the great table-tennis at one of the terraces - see my pictures !! They also have a laundry-room for self-service !

Burg Stahleck

If you want to stay in a castle while in Germany you could try this place. It is fairly nice and worth staying there just to say you've lived in a castle. ;)

We stayed at the castle hostel...

We stayed at the castle hostel in a small town called Bacharach - Burg Stahleck.

We paid 31DM each for a quad room with breakfast included (but there was no bathroom in the room - it was just down the hall a bit).

Unique Quality: It was great to stay in a castle, although there was a young school class there at the same time and they were very noisy... Otherwise I think it would have been better! The rooms are nothing special but it was cool just to know we were in a castle. ;)
