THE BEST Rhine River Valley tourist information!!
by ringleader
We plan to stay in the Castle Liebenstein during our visit and have been searching for information and photos of the area. There is a map of the river from Bonn through the Rhinegau to Mainz. It's an interactive map where you can see photos of each town, castle, and sight along the river; read history of the area; and see how many hotels are in each area.

Packing...
by CandS
A comfortable backpack is useful...especially if you have to do a lot of walking with it... A daypack would be a good idea for your day trips from your base... Take some warm clothes if you go in the autumn...it gets cold and a rain jacket would also come in handy...
Marksburg - just 9 km from Koblenz
by globetrott
When exploring the right bank of the river Rhine from Koblenz upstream, you will see one of the most interesting castles of the Rhine-valley !
It is Marksburg in Braubach, the only medieval castle in the area of Middle-Rhine, that was almost not changed at all or adapted afterwards and it was never destoyed.
Marksburg is also the seat of the "Deutsche Burgenvereinigung" (German castle assosiation) and holds a big library with 12000 books.
The castle is 150 meters above the river Rhine and you may drive up by car or take a small road-train from Braubach, a lovely village, also worth a visit !
The castle is open for visitors daily 10.00a.m.-05.00p.m. and photography inside the castle is allowed !
Pretzels!
by steventilly about The Pretzel Guys!
I love Pretzels and especially the big, fresh ones pedalled by the local pretzel sellers in these Rhineland towns. In Bingen there was a wine festival going on, and a couple of guys were pulling around baskets of pretzels. I had one, and then another - they're just sooo moreish. Pretzel!
Go and see the castle looming...
by Venturingnow
Go and see the castle looming over the city, it's pretty cool. There are also vineyards on all the hillsides that you may be able to take a tour of, I know of two. The best (from what I've heard) is located behind the train station.
