St Goar Castle...

The town of St Goar and the St Goar Castle on top of the hill...
Our cruise up the Rhine was great, we saw some gorgeous towns and seeing all the castles up on the hills was my favourite part!!
We didn't stop at many of the towns along the way but we will go again one day.
Kuba

This little shop on Eltzerhofstraße is the Koblenz Environmental Office, home to organizations such as ÖKOSTADT Koblenz e.V., which publishes a quarterly environmental magazine for Koblenz, and other progressive and environmental organizations.
These worthy organizations really have their work cut out for them, because most of the Koblenz city administration is still firmly automobile-oriented at the expense of public health, safety and sanity.
Second photo: This sign shows the organizations which have there headquarters in KUBA. I am a member of two of these, VCD and ADFC, but in Frankfurt not Koblenz.
Third photo: The Eltzerhofstraße is a "play street", meaning that motorists theoretically have to share it with non-motorized human beings.
KUBA is at Eltzerhofstraße 10, near the Moselle River and Peter-Altmeier-Ufer.
Bus # 1 stops at Eltzerhofstraße.
Pfalz - just 33 km from Koblenz
by globetrott
Pfalz or Pfalzgrafenstein is the name of this wonderful castle that was built on a small island in the river Rhine, opposite of the village Kaub at the right bank and Oberwesel at the left bank. Burg Pfalz is in a distance of 33 km upstream from Koblenz. In medieval times a strong chain held up all the ship-trafic passing by this castle and high taxes had to be payed by the merchants passing by.
In the village KAUB you may take a ferry that will take you there and you may visit the castle-interior.
In December and every 1st workingday of the week it is closed.
January - March : 09.00a.m.-01.00p.m. + 02.00p.m.-05.00p.m.

Last entry is 1 hour before closing !!
The ferry to the island is leaving in Kaub. During the day a large car-ferry goes across the river there !
Boat ride on the Mosel
by dln6874
If you are on the Eurail pass, you can get on the K-D line from Koblenz to Cochem on the Mosel river for free. There is only one boat per day from Koblenz - at 0945, and it takes five hours to get to Cochem (only an hour by train tho), but it is a nice ride. Nice views along the river, and with the right company, time will fly by. You will see cute towns, churches, and ruins along the way. You'll pass a few locks, wineries, mountains. The boat also has a return trip back to Koblenze in the evening, but we took the train back since we had to go back to Holland that night.
The White Rose
by Nemorino
In May 2006 I saw a performance here in the Koblenz City Theater of Die weiße Rose (The White Rose) by Udo Zimmermann (born 1943). This is a short opera about the life and death of Hans and Sophie Scholl, a brother and sister who formed an anti-Nazi resistance group called The White Rose in Munich during the Second World War.
In 1943, eight months before the composer was born, Hans and Sophie were caught distributing anti-Nazi leaflets at the university in Munich. They were condemned to death for this, and were executed the same day.
A new production of the same opera, staged by the actor Christoph Quest and featuring Britta Stallmeister as Sophie, will be shown in Frankfurt at the Bockenheimer Depot in March 2007.
The composer Udo Zimmermann is better known as an orchestra conductor and opera manager. He was the General Director (Intendant) of the Leipzig Opera from 1990 to 2001, and held the same post at the Deutsche Oper Berlin from 2001 to 2004.
Second photo: People taking their seats in the Koblenz Theater for Zimmermann's opera.
Third photo: Since this opera is about resistance against the Nazis, they were allowed to use a Nazi flag on the stage. Ordinarily it is illegal in Germany to display any sort of Nazi symbols.
Fourth photo: The upper lobby of the Koblenz theater.
