Thanks a lot

I don't know the area that well but, you might try www.apartment-ferienwohnung.de/ or search the internet for apartment ferienwohnung and Mainz for example. Also check with the local tourist office. Good luck.

Travel Tips for Mainz

Neubrunnenplatz

by yooperprof

There are lots of good restaurant choices in the small streets that radiate from this square. It's about a ten to fifteen minute walk from either the train station or the Dom.

Neubrunnenplatz is dominated by its central obelisk, and the genial sphinxes that guard it.

Eissporthalle Mainz

by Kristina1701

If you like to go ice skating, then this is the place to go. The stadion is opened from September till April, 7 days a week. On weekends there's "disco ice-skating" from 7pm onwards.
The entry fee is 3.50EUR for kids and 4EUR for adults at the moment. In the evenings and on weekends it's more expensive. You can either bring your own ice-skating shoes or borrow some for 4EUR there (you'll have to bring your ID then though!)

Back to the 60s?

by Kristina1701 about Schick & Schön

I must say this is the weirdest bar/club I've been to so far *lol* It's definitely a student club with a very unique atmosphere. Time seems so to have stopped in the 60s there *lol* They have this "flower power wallpaper" and old furniture from times long gone ;-) While chilling or sipping cocktails on the couches you can play all those video games from your childhood and the time before you were born *lol* They have DJs in the house once a week or so! Nothing special really. Dress the way you like! Don't overdress though!

Cathedral

by Leipzig

Mainz Cathedral is without doubt the most impressive building in town. It look back on an over 1000-year-long history. The first Cathedral from the 10th century was destroyed by a fire. The new one was built by Archbishop Willigis in order to create an new "Rome" to make Mainz a centre of faith. Some ornaments on the cathedral are still from that period. For example the leaves of the market portals date back to the 11th century. Over the centuries several additions were made so that you can see now Baroque and Gothic elements.

Marktplatz

by antistar

The market place in Mainz on Easter Saturday has to be one of the busiest and crowded I have ever seen. The whole square was jam packed with stalls, some flowing over into neighbouring Liebfrauplatz and around the Höfchen with its huge fountain square. The throngs of people moving hastily from one pile of vegetables to another was a real obstacle to overcome when trying to navigate around the Cathedral. Not that I minded as it was great to see such a huge amount of humanity around such a traditional community activity. The market place itself, when empty of the market stalls, is actually a beautiful and restful place, with some great cafés, like Extra Blatt. You can see how empty it was on the previous day, Good Friday, from some of the other images I have here of some of the Marktplatz sights, like the Marktbrunnen.
