Johannisfest takes place every year in the end of June. It lasts for four days and ends with huge fireworks on the Rhine River.
During the festival the Rhine River promenade as well as the city centre turn into a fair. Also, several radio stations of Rheinland-Pfalz are usually present.
Mainz 05 play in 2 Bundesliga this seasona nd appear well placed for promotion. We saw them play Wacker Burghausen , a 2-0 home win and a lively atmosphere, helped by a small and noisy visitors section. A tidy stadium and nice to be able to stand up with a beer while watching the game. a good evening out!
If you wanna have a rather quiet evening, then this café/bar would be a good option. Even though there are some other bars and a club nearby there really isn't much going on in this corner of the Fort Malakoff Park, which is a kind of roofed shopping centre.
They offer alcoholic and non alcohlic drinks (cocktails, spirits, soft drinks etc.) as well as small dishes.
Located opposite the Gutenberg Monument in Gutenbergplatz, this theatre holds cultural performances in the centre of town. There's a good view of the Dom (St. Martin's Cathedral) from the upper floors, but I didn't get a chance to go up, which's a pity. Maybe next time!
This space at the top of the building was newly created during the remodeling from 1998 to 2001.
It is an elegant place to wine and dine, with of course a fine view of the cathedral.
