Travel Tips for Traben-Trarbach
The village and the castle
by tessy
There is a big parking on the Mosel river, from there you have a view to the village and the Grevenburg, where you see the ruins on the top of the hill. I always like climbing up the hill to explore the castles and to enjoy the view on the valley.
The people
by ATLC
The local custom is, as I experienced, that people are polite and kind. I found it so in our hotel, the restaurant where we had lunch, when you ask directions, the lady in the bakery that allowed us to photograph and gave us a recipe between helping other customers... everywhere we had coffee or drinks. It really makes your holiday so much nicer if the people of the country you're traveling in make you feel at home.
Hiking, rowing, ....
by tessy
We hiked from Bernkastel to Traben Trarbach. First we had to climb up the mountain through the vineyards. It was so steep. ... Uuuf....Then there was a nice path through the forest and when leaving the forest, we saw Traben-Trarbach down in the valley. There are lots of other possibilities to do sport, especially on the Mosel: canoes, rowing, ....
Hiking path: Traben-Trarbach to Bernkastel-Kues
by yumalation
I had heard about this path over the hill and was expecting it to be more popular but I was wrong. We met only two french speaking elderly ladies on our way.
Normally it takes two hours to cross the hill but we got lost. We were told to take the path T8. In the first crossing with T6 there was no problem. The signs in the other crossing told that T8 goes both to the left and right so we had to choose. We chose the path that goes to right. We should have taken the left path uphill. The muddy one.
Well eventually after 3 hours we found our way back to Traben-Trarbach and decided to visit Bernkastel-Kues by boat. The scenery was nice and so was the weather. We listened the church bells and we got lots of exercise so no harm done. Just remember to take some sandwiches and plenty of water along. There is maps for hikers to sell so next time I might buy one..
Take a walk through the forest
by desisnards
A nice walk in the forest is really great. Start by going to the stairway entrance between "Top Schuh" in Brucken strasse (Bridge Street). Walk up the stair through the vineyards and to the Gravenburg (Kommanderhause) castle up on the hill.
From there you walk to the Gravenburg car park and up the road. There are a few entrances to the forest and it's really hard to miss these. Once you get to the forest, take in the pine smells and mountain biking routes all the way back down to the mosel.
It's worth the walk - see photos attached.
