Trier to Paris quickly
by gdaymate2
How can I get from Trier to Paris before 1pm (the time I have to be at the airport) on the same day? I can only find a train from Luxembourg at 5am, but that means getting there by 5am which is a bit tricky. Other trains don't arrive until 2pm which is too late. I can't find a goo car rental company that'll do a same day one way trip between the 2 countries. Any coaches or busses?

Use: http://www.bahn.de/international/view/en/index.shtml , which gives you more train options to Paris.

There is a train leaving Trier at 6:41, arriving in Paris Est at 10:19, with a change in Luxembourg from the local train to the TGV.
Which airport are you going to? If it's CDG, this train will be in time, but if it's Beauvais I would go the day before and spend the night in Paris.

We only stopped in on our way to Belgium....but I'm glad we stopped to see it all! The ROEMER-EXPRESS was able to save us from the rain and take us around to see all these sights:
Porta Nigra - Roter Turm (Red Tower) - Liebfrauenkirche (Church of Our Lady) - Dom (Cathedral) - Georgsbrunnen (St. George's Fountain) - Roemische Palastaula (Basilika: Imperial Throne Room) - Kaiserthermen (Imperial Baths) - Thermen am Forum (Baths at the Viehmarkt) - Karl-Marx-Haus - Vereinigte Hospitien (former convents)

The old roman arena or Amphitheatre
Beyond the medieval city wall lies the Roman Amphitheater. Here were conducted cruel combats of animals and gladiators, popular public entertainment.
The Arena is build in the year 100, on the tribunes 20.000 people could watch the games.
The arena itself is surrounded by a protecting wall with openings for animal cages. The stone seats above were dismantled in the 13th century.
The Amphitheater is used for occasional open-air concerts today.
Underneath the arena is a cellar where, in Roman times, prisoners sentenced to death were kept. You can visit this underground room
Pétanque at the Schloß
by kokoryko
Pétanque is a very popular game in southern Europe, and specially in France, but this very convivial game has been exported in other Europen places and it was a nice surprise to see these people playing pétanque in the Elector Prince’s palace garden. It is usually played on village places, in the shade of plane trees or mulberry trees, but here, the trees are beeches and the décor is quite “historic”; the players had beer or Mosel wine, for refreshments, different from the French Pastis. I had some fun looking at them for a while, and having a short chat, during which they told me that game is called “boule” in Germany, greeting them for the nice place where they played; they did not mind, just liked the game. . . .
Eintracht Trier

I'm usually aware of any football games happening on my travels, missed this one until the day before when we saw an advert for it, needless to say ,we were there. Result was a 1-0 home win against the top of 2Bundesliga side MSV Duisburg. Small stadium was packed with I guess around 10,000 fans in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Beware the beer is alchohol free though - very bad!
Fast cars!!

If your one of those F1 Grand Prix enthusiast located just past Trier is Nurgburgring. This is the site of the German Grand Prix(?) or is it the European Grand Prix (?) either way if you like to see Micheal Schumacher in his Ferrari this is the place to be. The other race track for the F1 in germany is Hockenheim located just outside Mannheim.
Once a year I believe Ferrari has racing day in here where a lot of Ferrari owners from all over Europe congregate here and dispaly their prize possesion. The Ferrari racing team also showcase all their racing cars with a mini race around the track.
