    View on the Porta Nigra!

    by

The trip to Trier was totally unplanned and we had to find a shelter for the night. There are a few hotels near the Porta Nigra, and the statue of St Christopher at the corner of a building was somehow attracting; I enquired at the hotel, thought for a while, went out, enquired at another nearby hotel, and came back quickly to the Christophel!
Ah! Hotel review! Not fond of that but I must say that the place is on the best location in Trier, just opposite to the Porta Nigra, the wide room where we stayed (two beds) with view on the Plaza and Porta Nigra, had two big windows, the dining (and breakfast) room is nicely decorated, the breakfast excellent (euh, not for muslims!), well, almost perfect! And the staff, typical German hospitality, friendly and polite; in one word, I liked it! What I also liked, is that I did not need to leave a print of a credit card, no ID card was asked even for my Asiatic friend, well, confidence! I felt almost at home!
There are some places you are just amazed of!
A bit expensive (but worth the price!), and,
    1) it is the best location and
    2) I did not want to spend hours to look for a room!

90 Euro for two with breakfast

Directions: Nest to the Porta Nigra; the house with Christoph's statue.

  • in the heart of the city

    by

We didnt stay here but a friend did and according tohim its cheap, the braekfast buffet is good, the staff is a bit too buzzy (so not that super friendly when you need them) but the rroms are very comfy, and most of all its next to the porta nigra, the ultimate cetntre of the town.

Unique Quality: there are some 10 rooms, with shower, bad, satelite television and ISDN-phone, there is an elevator, a restaurant and a grand lounge. and in summer and spring the terras is open.

Directions: The center of the town

    Next to Porta Nigra

    by

We enjoyed our short stay here. The hotel is well located in the city centre. There are 11 renovated clean rooms with TV and bathroom. There's also an elevator.

A great breakfast is served in the restaurant.
They have a couple of parking lots available nearby for 3 EUR per day.
The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Directions: Next to Porta Nigra, close to old centre

Auto Parts in Trier (Philips lights)

by digil

I will be traveling to Trier in a few weeks and hoped to get a good deal on some automobile headlight bulbs while I was there (since Philips is a German company). Does anybody know a place in Trier that sells auto parts? Thanks.

Philips is a Dutch company. No idea where they produce their headlight bulbs however.
Not sure if your logic about good deals is perfect. If you buy a German produced car outside of Germany this is often cheaper than in Germany. There is a whole business living from re-imports for this reason.

Thanks for your information. I misspoke. While Philips is indeed a Dutch company, their automobile bulbs are manufactured in Germany. Can't hurt to look and see if they are cheaper.

Market fountain

by Helga67

On the Market Place stands a beautiful fountain. On top you will find St. Peter. He's the patron saint of the Cathedral and the city. He is surrounded by the four cardinal virtues: Justice, Strength, Temperance, and Wisdom. There are also monsters and monkeys.

Drinking beer

by kokoryko

I never drink wine alone, even with other people, if they do not drink wine; a bit a pity in the Mosel Valley, but it is a rule for me; so I enjoyed the locally or nearby Trier brewed beers; Germany is well known for its beers, and even the rather “common” are very pleasant to drink, and on the first picture is a popular “pilsner”, a bitter one, as I like them.
On the second picture is a dark malted beer, brewed with pilsner technique: dark malt, one fermentation, and aromatised with hops.
Of course, all beers in Germany are brewed according to the “Reinheitsgebot”, law of purity, meaning the ingredients are malt, water and hops, nothing else, and certainly not preservatives; that helps fro preventing headaches if you happen to drink a bit a lot. . . .

Motor Sports - Fascination Car Racing

by gypsyT.

As I grew up being on car races each and every weekend up 'til the age of 13 (my dad was a racedriver), there is still a bit of fascination left.
In four large halls the adventure and leisure park at the Nürburg Ring auto racing course shows various facets of motor sports: current racing vehicles, antique cars, interactive/audiovisual adventure activities, motor development, indoor go-cart race course and much more.
Open: daily 10 a.m.-6 p.m. (indoor go-cart-course 11 a.m.-9 p.m.
