Travel Tips for Wittlich
Wittlich holds on the third weekend in August every year "Saeubrennerkirmes" (pig burning). During the festival in the city center Wittlicher grill pigs one after one and people stand in line buying grill-pork in bread. This year 2006 the festival was on 18-21 August. We visited the city on the last day and as leaving, they grilled already the 87th pig.
Hiking, Biking, ...
There is a beautiful path along the Lieser river, calles Lieserpfad leading to the Eifel. There is also the old rails, where no train is any more, but there is an excellent way to bike or do inlining. There is a bus taking you to Daun/Eifel and from there you can go down to the valley to Wittlich!
Fort Hackenberg, about 90mns from Bitburg
The largest fortress — and one of the first — in the Maginot Line was Fort Hackenberg, which is about 90 minutes from both Kaiserslautern and Bitburg in Germany. It is near the town of Veckring, France.

The little place where I was born ....
Some of you asked me to show some pics of the place where I was born and where my girls like to spend their vacation. It's a little town called Wittlich (about
15 000 inhabitants), 27 miles in the east of Trier and about 80 miles in the west of Koblenz. It is not situated in the Mosel valley, but at the border to the Eifel, a beautiful highland in that region. Here you have a view from the vineyards to valley.
On the market square, you'll find a lot of beautiful houses, like the townhall.
