Visit beautiful Sternmühltal!
The Sternmühltal is a very beautiful valley located approximately 10km outside of Chemnitz. It's a wonderful place to go hiking. A good hike might start from the Adelsbergturm and lead you to Augustusburg (appr. 10km). The first kilometers lead through dense forest until you reach the actual valley. Cross the street and follow the creek that meanders through the meadows. After another 2km you'll reach a village called Kunnersdorf. In case you are hungry, there's a nice inn in Kunnersdorf. You've got several possibilities to finish your hike to Augustusburg. One is to follow the street to Hennersdorf and climb the hill from the South, another is to walk on to Erdmannsdorf and take the funicular railway up the hill. Both are worth trying, so you have to decide yourselves. For information on Augustusburg, see my Augustusburg page.
The area is best reached by bus no 66 from Chemnitz. This bus service is only available between Easter and the end of October and costs 4 Euro for one way or 6 Euro for a return ticket. The buses leave from the central bus stop (Zentralhaltestelle) in Chemnitz three times a day.
