The popular christmas market
by Antji
The STRIEZELMARKT to christmas time. If you have the luck to be in Dresden in december, you have to go to the Striezelmarkt on the Altmarkt. You will see a typical beautiful german christmas market with a lot of stands where you can find the typical 'Erzgebirgischen Figuren' like pyramids, little figures of angels...all of it is handmade!
Second Hand Goth Store
by Jgiii
Sadly, I don't remember the address, but somewhere in the Neustadt I stumbled upon this shop where I could have spent every last euro I brought with me on my trip. I only left with a few records and some pins, but I admired the coffin that had been turned into a bookshelf and the friendly goth chick who gave me my change out of a metal box and said "Joy Division ist Gut." (excuse my poor German skills). I hope it's still there.
LOSCHWITZ: Körnerplatz
by Kathrin_E
Körnerplatz, the square at the end of the Blaues Wunder bridge, is a traffic hub for the suburbs on the right bank of the Elbe, both for car traffic and buses. From here, too, the funicular up to Weißer Hirsch (photo 3) and the suspension railway up to Loschwitzer Höhe depart.
This area which is situated much higher than the Elbe and thus quite safe of floods was the location of the first settlement which then extended further downhill towards the river. When the bridge was built the old village houses were demolished and substituted by larger buildings in the historistic style of the late 19th century.
The building on the southern side of the square (photo 2) contains an excellent coffeehouse and bakery, Café Wippler, which is famous for its Eierschecke, a Dresden cake speciality.
By train. If you're coming...

By train. If you're coming from the west, there are ICE (super-express) trains from all of Germany and they all terminate in Dresden. There are also trains from Wroclaw, Warsaw, and Krakow in Poland, and Prague in the Czech Republic.
Eating and burning :-)
by mauro_pd about Spitzhaus
No, not for hot food :-). The fact is that the restaurant sits over an hill and it has lots of windows overlooking Dresden from above ... unfortunately if is bloody sunny you get burned on your face while eating :-)))
Just a joke of course ... good restaurant just outside Dresden Deer carpaccio with something I completely forgot :-( ... I enjoyed also a Kerner white wine by www.schloss-wackerbarth.de
