Kulturpalast
by pieter_jan_v
The Kulturpalast was build in the middle of the destroyed inner city of Dresden (bombardment of February 13, 1945) between the Altmarkt and the Neumarkt squares.
Is was build under the Russian occupation after World War II in line with other Kulturpalast buildings in major East Block cities.
It was designed by architect Wolfgang Hänsch in a Bauhaus style, quite different from the restored adjacent historical buildings. The opening took place in 1969.
The building has a Main Hall, Conference Floor and Panorama, Conference Area Forum, Studio Theatre, Seminar Rooms and Foyers.
At the South West corner the Dresden theater ticket office and the Tourist Office are located.
On the outer West wall there is a big display called "Der Weg der roten".
Eurospeedway Lausitz
by Antji
Eurospeedway or Lausitzring (both names are used) is 50 km north of Dresden near from the city Senftenberg and Schipkau. It´ s directly on the Highway A 13 in direction of Berlin. You have to leave the Highway at Klettwitz. The Opening was in August 2000. It´s a racetrack and testing area of 357 ha. There are a lot´s of events - not only races. So sometimes there are concerts of bands or is Nightskating. I never tried Inlineskating there before - but it must be fun and I should try it. But sometimes I work in the Vip Lounge during races and it´s nice to meet some important people.;)

Zwinger - Mathematisch-Physikalischer Salon
by german_eagle
Well, you must be surprised to read that the Zwinger is "off the beaten path" - no, of course not the Zwinger itself, but it is also home of the Mathematisch-Physikalischer Salon.
This amazing collection of scientific (mostly optical and nautical) instruments, globes and similar objects is really underrated and missed by most visitors.
On the second floor of the pavillon which houses the collection you find an outstanding exhibition of watches, clocks and automatons.
Opening hours: Fri - Wed 10 - 18 h

Choose a traditional Sachson restaurant
by Pavlik_NL
Enough restaurants to choose from, now-a-days also foreign ones. However, if you mingle and make friends, it's nice to have a barbeque German style (lot of sausages and salads). 'Sachsische Leberwurst' (Sachson liversausage) is worldfamous as well as the 'Kartoffelsalat' (Potatoesalad). Furthermore, this region has some excellent beers that can be tried with the above mentioned goodies.
