This picture shows you a panorama of Dresden. If you go about one of the three bridges in Downtown you will have this very nice view. I like to do it very much; especially at a beautiful sunset or at night.
Meissenin a distance of just about 22 km north of Dresden is well known for its fine porcellan-manufactory, for a lovely town and Albrechtsburg, a great castle high above the town. In Meissen you may also see the famous collection of Meissen-porcelain in "Staatliche Porzellan-Manufaktur"
and in Meissen you could also buy a great traditional pastry, called FUMMEL (see my 2nd picture)...
August der Starke had a post-rider, who was drinking quite a lot, and in order to control him , he asked the bakeries in Meissen to create a very thin pastly that might easily break, when it is not carried carefully...
You may still buy this pastry ONLY in Konditorei Zieger for about 2 Euros, it is big like a loaf of bread, but very light and really thin ( & it survived several days in my car)
It is a funny souvenir, BUT I would NOT recommend it for a great taste , it actually tastes like nothing
You can't move in Europe these days without tripping over the crowds spilling out of the Irish pubs. In Dresden the place to go is the Ha'penny Bridge on the Leipzigerstrasse. Just the place to be the next time that Germany takes on Ireland at football, especially since on current form the Irish would start as favourites. Irland vor, noch ein Tor!
Took a walk over the Augustus bridge to take some photos of the city and right at the end of the bridge a welcoming beergarden and it was lunch time too.
Typical beergarden food and drink on offer plus great views of Dresden.
