the hunting-lodge of August the strong
by globetrott
Moritzburg was one of the many hunting-lodges of August the Strong and the castle dates back to the year 1723 and it needed 13 years to be finished by the architects Zacharias Longuelune, Matthäus Daniel Pöppelmann and Jean de Bodt.
"August der Starke" (August the strong), who was not only king of Prussia, but also the king of Poland and he was not only strong as a king, but also father of hundreds of children with his many mistresses...
Moritzburg was just a hunting-castle - ment to be able to accomodate hundreds of guests and servants of the king, when he intended to stay there for a short time.
Moritzburg is 14 km north of Dresden
The castle may be visited only by a guided tour !
