In this probably in GDR time built building, you have a great base for exploring the old city with the Zwinger, the Castle and so on.
You can have a double room with your own bathromm for under 20€ per person (price 2005) with breakfast and if you want to have supper, you only pay around 4€ more.
The food, especially the breakfast buffett was plentyfull, fresh and good.
For a stay here you have to be a member of an organization associated with Youth Hosteling International or you have to sign up for a membership here (Which is just 12€ a year for a person under 27).
The outside look istn´t too great but who cares - you only sleep there. They have a bar, a fitness room and everyone is very friendly and helpful.
Unique Quality: If you plan on doing a lot of cultural related activities like going to the Semper opera, this is just about the best budget solution there is: only a 10 min walk to the old city center.
Take the S-Bahn numbers 7,9,10,26 to the World Trade Center and walk about 200 meters north. Its just behind the world trade center on your right.
To the main railway station it´s about 1 km.
