Travel Tips for Dresden

Semper Opera. Inside

by bugulma

So, January 2, 2005 is my first time for opera. I have watched "Carmen" by Georges Bizet. Interior of the opera is great but you may make a photo only if you pay extra fee. The picture you see was made in 15 minutes before the beginning of the performance.

Dreikoenigskirche

by cucaracha

Located on the Neustadt the Dreikoenigskirche was built between 1732 and 1739. You can climb the tower and go inside that church where you can see one of the renascence monuments of Dresden the Dance of the Death of Dresden, which dates from 1534.

Meißen

by Leipzig

Meissen, founded in 929 on the Elbe River, became popular due to Europe's oldest Porcelain Manufactures. The town is the cradle of Saxony because it was seat of the kings and rulers of Saxony.
Today, Meißen is situated in Saxonys romantic wine-growing region and hosts about 33,000 citizens. The Albrechtsburg Cathedral and the Bishop’s Castle tower above the city.
The fanciest way to get there is by boat. Go to one of the shipping companies on the banks of the Elbe and look for riding opportunities. A train ride is a faster alternative.

Airport

by bugulma

Dresden has an airport. It is not far from the Neu Hauptbahnhof (new railway station) in New Town, in 15-20 minutes by S-Bahn. Don't forget to punch a ticket because I forget to do it and had a talking with conductor :-).

Blaues Wunder

by bugulma

In the East of Dresden there is a bridge that has name Blaues Wunder, Blue Wonder. It was built in 1891-1893. I heard a story that it was painted first in green colour but after the first raining it became blue. Such way it has its name. To the right there is Fernsehturm (TV tower).
