Hello, I will be visiting Dresden in October around the 10-12th, please join us in a vt meeting if you are there at that time!

I would love to see Prague also, I think I will be taking trains also if I do make it to your great city also.

Hi!
One day in Dresden is not enough to see all the nice places but you shouln't miss the historical buidings in the centre of the city.
The palace "Zwinger", the church "Frauenkirche and the Opera "Semperoper" - all situated in the same area at the river. And in the evening you should go the the "Neustadt" - a part of the city where you'll find great bars, clubs and restaurants in a good mix.
Have fun!
Anja

Travel Tips for Dresden

...see Dresdens historic...

by stipvisiten

...see Dresdens historic center. it has one advantage: all of the well known and famous buildings or places are in walking distance. So it depends on the amount of time and condition that you bring along whether we walk the city within one, one and a half or two hours (recommended).
Although we suggest the Taschenbergpalais as a starting point you may choose any other starting point (e.g. your hotel). ALL the places of the historic Old Town are a must, with Semper Opera and zwinger and the river Elbe...

IN the woods and serene. this is an ideal spot to relax and enjoy the local flavors. I went through here some years ago, but it is remembered, yet. The only picture memory is of the Ramada Hotel or known as Sloss hotel in Zittauer area.

Well I was looking out for things and signs of the former GDR times.... It will be getting more difficult every year I think and as I have been in the GDR during its existence I found it very interesting to keep some memories of the past...

Ferries

by german_eagle

A special mode of transportation in Dresden are the ferries. I know of at least four which cross the Elbe river.

Most of them are for people and bikes etc. only, but there is one in Pillnitz (near the Palace) which is for cars, too.

The ferries operate from morning till evening on demand, roughly from 6 am till 10 pm. The fare is ca. 1 Euro, but they are also included in the public transportation system tickets (day tickets, Dresden Card etc.)

Czech food at its best

by mauro_pd about Wenzel

Big challenge for you:
eat in this restaurant and try not to become drunken !!!!!!!!
Czech food is even more tasty than the german one :-), then you need liters of beer ... and when you think the dinner is over ... you must go for some spirits, Becherovka or Sljwovitz, iced and strong ..... ohhhhhhh God, thanx we took a bus :-)))))) It's about meat with tasty sauce ... if you only wanna have a salad go easily somewhere else !!!!!
Do not forget czech dark beer Staropranem !!
