For the long ski weekend in 2013 we chose 3star Hotel Rotgiesserhaus, which is located right in the town, only one (short) block from the Markt square. Private parking (free) right by the hotel. The building goes back to 1747, when it was built as a red-bronze casting house. In 1975 it was reconstructed as a hotel/restaurant and an addition with guest rooms was built in the back. In 1996 Family Schnitzlein bought the property, renovated it and runs it as a 3star hotel since then. The ambience is warm, cosy, typical rural Erzgebirge, I'd say. Friendly service.
The reception is a small room off the main corridor to the left, the (public) restaurant with bar is to the right. There is a very nice wellness area with saunas/steambath/relaxing room in the basement (free), open in the afternoons/early evening - perfect after a day out in the cold winter air skiing.
The room was in the old part of the house, front side with view along the small alley to the Markt square. One morning, when the sun came out, I discovered that you could also catch a glimpse of the ski area higher up on the mountain (pic 5). The room had everything needed, bed was comfortable, satellite TV had lots of channels, bathroom was fine with shower, hairdryer etc.
Breakfast was in a room on the ground floor in the new wing. Somehow the interior/ambience of the room didn't appeal much to me. Too "white" with bare walls, if you know what I mean. Breakfast buffet was ok, but nothing special. The staff at breakfast was not too friendly, I remember getting cold stares when I grabbed more than one slices of the dark bread.
With the little exception of breakfast (and that was not really a big problem) I enjoyed my stay here very much. I might choose another hotel for the next stay out of curiosity, but if the price is right again - paid 40 Euro incl. breakfast plus city tax (2 Euro?), with free parking and free sauna - I'd stay here again.
