Lepzig hotel called Stern

by Oh_Dr_Carter

I think the address is Merseburger Str. 158. Anyone know how far this hotel is from the city centre? How easy to get home at night from town? Thanks for any help. x

Doc, this place is probably not that bad, but about 5 km from the centre and difficult to reach by public transport. Situated in an industry area behind a petrol station.
It also doubles as a brothe and massage parlourl: Have a look here: www.stundenhotel-leipzig.de
Go there if you have your own car and look for some relaxation :-)))

Travel Tips for Leipzig

KARICARTOON

by Leipzig

You all read newspapers and I bet in your local newspaper is always a caricature of politicans or certain events. If you like such a satirical kind of humor the "KARICARTOON LEIPZIG" should be a destination for you.

The exhibition takes place every year in winter.
Address:
Stadtgeschichtliches Museum Leipzig (Neubau)

Valleys of Castles

by Leipzig

South of Leipzig along the Zwickauer Mulde can be found numerous historical buildings. Rochsburg Castle, a 12th century feudal castle, Wechselburg Castle, a picturesque castle built in 1168 as well as Rochlitz Castle, a residence of the Saxon royals built in 1525 (photo).

Tea and Pastry

by german_eagle about Café Kandler

Of course you can have an excellent coffee here, too, but the focus is on tea - I was thrilled to find a huge variety of tea. The interior is "gemütlich", a bit crowded, but you can also go upstairs where it is quieter. Service is quick, attentive. Family run place with a lot of charm. The pastry choices are endless and everything looked appealing.

I was really surprised to find such a very nice place in the touristy centre around St. Thomas church and the Bach house. I had the usual first flush Darjeeling tea, a piece of "Eierschecke" and a "Leipziger Lerche" (short pastry filled with marcipan). Delicious (except that I prefer the Dresden version of Eierschecke).

Nikolaikirche

by cucaracha

Nikolaikirche is going through a major re-conditioning so it is close and I was able to only take a glance through some glass. The church is very spacious but simple, the exotic tone comes from the "palm tree like" columns like the one on Nikolaikirchhof shown on the next tip.

The photo shows Nikolaikirche at the deep into the street.

Museum Der Bildenden Kuenste

by Mariajoy

Huge modern glass block of a building housing a fine collection of contemporary art. As well as photographic and video images, the collection includes, sculptures, paintings, and graphics from the work of Anton van Dycks, William Hogarth, Daniel Chodowiecki and Johann Friedrich Bause amongst many many others.

The building seems somewhat misplaced amongst the old buildings of the city, but it was wonderful to have space and calm and quiet after the busy bustling touristy streets.

Opening times:
Tuesday-Sunday 10-6pm
Wednesday 12-8pm
Mondays - closed

Adult tickets 5E.

Special exhibtions are extra.
